Multiple Bird Syndrome is a problem? [Users must be registered and logged in to view attached photos or hyperlinks]

Is it contagious?

Do You Have it?

I think one should have as many birds as they can afford and provide for in the best way possible. If I had my way I would have more......lol.

Lol. I might have it if it weren't for two important problems.

1. Rosie would freak as she is firm on this being a one parrot household.

2. Jef would kick us all out.

It depends...
do you have to work for a living?
Parrots need a heck of a lot of input if you want a good friend and not just something pretty in a cage.

Is anyone actually looking for another bird?

Haha, Kendra, I can relate! If I didn't have a husband who is looking for an excuse to move away to Mexico,,I would have birds in every room! :)

I started with two macaws... I had not planned on acquiring any others. That limit lasted for more than 20 years... until I found an ad for a wonderful Hyacinth in long-term boarding. I made the decision to adopt that wonderful bird - and it surely helped that for many years I'd harbored a dream of including a Hy in my life. Zaf thus came aboard! Thereafter, I privately vowed that I would never add another bird to my flock as long as my 3 existing macaws remained alive and well. However... I had also made a promise to a dear friend that I would provide a loving home for her GW macaw should anything happen to her. This dear friend was Salsa's mom, Terrie. She passed away in 2012, which brought my total to 4 large macaws. I certainly didn't intend for things to go as they have gone. My current plan is that I won't be acquiring any additional birds in the foreseeable future. We'll see how it goes.

Despite my attempt at 'drawing the line' (as it were), my concern is that if not for the many amazing folks on our planet with "Multiple Bird Syndrome", what would become of those countless birds who now enjoy happiness and security in loving multiple-bird homes? I think there's a desperate need for loving, responsible caregivers to adopt as many homeless parrots as they're able to adequately care for. There simply aren't enough homes with few to no birds that are willing to accommodate the many, many birds out there in need :'(

Oh I surely don't have it. If I was home all day, and had endless funds, then well, maybe because then I could move to an island and design my home where they would also be living.

I often think of getting Lady a feathered companion but I'm not actively looking for one.

I think money and caring for birds are closely related. You also should be healthy because your birds need you. They really do grieve a lost flock member. Wish I had another lifetime to devote to many needy birds.

I started out with one grey.My wife was less than impressed.Six months later she had a grey as well.Several months later our first macaw, and again several months later our first jardine.Well sometimes I momentarily wish we had stopped there.Alas my wife and I had the opportunity to get a breeding pair of Greenwings.Thru a series of both rescues and opportunity we now have hit our capacity.Several breeding pairs of macaws, greys, conures ,Quakers and a lovely pair of tres marias amazons as well as a number of pets as well.My wife is home all the time tending to the gang and my off time is spent doing the same.I think most people think we've lost our minds with a monthly food bill pushing well over a thousand dollars, plus vet bills etc.I couldn't give a single one up.The silence would be deafening.
