I planted zinnias, from seed, this year and they took off like mad! They have fed honey bees and even the Monarch butterfly's have dropped in! Today I walked out to find maybe 50 small, black-headed sparrows flush from the ground around these flowers, I'll have to assume that they were going after the dropped seeds, I wish I could have gotten a photo of that..these are the beautiful flowers, though :)

We need more Zinnias (whatever they are!)
House sparrows seem to have all but disappeared around here. Along with starlings, lapwings and house martins. The latter three are all migratory so it is obviously the fault of those at the other end although I have a suspicion that with house martins it is because all our phone lines are now underground so they have nowhere to gather before setting off for Africa.

Living in paradise where you are one should have a camera in their pocket all the time! I envy you.

Thanks, Ron, I'm not a great gardener, just an ok one but these zinnia flowers take off like a weed and continue to give beautiful color all summer/fall long. They have a lot of pollen in their middles :).
Jean-Pierre, that's always a hard one to witness, the drop in a natural wildlife occurrence :(. It's always heart lifting when I see the Monarch butterflies around, they migrate to central Mexico each year from, I believe from Canada. Their numbers are dwindling yearly :(

They are beautiful indeed. They are annuals if I remember correctly. Love the colors and some species have more petals than others.
