Rosie was running low on food and needed a new thermal perch so I took a ride to the Bird Store.
When we got there, I noticed a sign on the door saying 30% off all toys. Now just to give you an idea, this is not a small store. I think they have over 10,000 square feet, jammed with products and toys. Wooohooo! So I went a bit overboard in my great deal glee.
Miss Thing got a lot of new wood items to destroy. Sadly they didn't have her size thermal perch, so I will have to go back next week. That is if Jef lets me out of the house. When he came home from his meeting he caught sight of all of the ginormous toys. I immediately got a lecture about watching the budget. Ugh. Although I guess I can see his point of view. He doesn't love Rosie and spending money on toys that are destroyed faster than you can blink must be highly annoying for him. But I don't care, she was so happy ooohing and chomping away. I guess it is the sort of thing you need to be a parrot lover to appreciate. :)
Haha! Kendra, you are so funny! You might want to order that perch on-line! I get'cha though, my hubs doesn't get it, either! :)

Good for Rosie :encouragement: ... it seems she lucked out on the 30% off toys sale . I realize she can be an irritant at times, but I'm not sure I understand why everyone wouldn't adore her. After all, she has many endearing qualities :)

Its funny Terri - I think I have just as much fun picking them out as she does playing with them.
Ron - Rosie certainly agrees!!! ;)
Well even though it can be costly, just think what things could be like without Rosie having toys to keep her beak trimmed and her mind stimulated, let alone her attitude. I need to come to your neck of the woods, how lucky to have such a super selection to look at, touch and decide whether or not it is right for Rosie!
And a 30% off sale is nothing to sneeze at~
I would of went a bit wild myself!

True. :) They have a huge cargo net I have been eyeing up for over a year. I just don't know where I would put it and where I would hide should Jef find out the cost. Those things are pricey!!
If you are ever in NJ, you should Alice. I know they actually have busloads come in for their parrot palooza in October. I am fortunate that it is only about 25 minutes from me. They almost always have a 30% off one item coupon which I use for her food. The all toys 30% was an awesome suprise!!

I order toys from a man that lives around me and I can spend $100 dollars and get like 20 some toys( big ones) and another lady around me and get a decent amount as well. I try to stick away from big bird stores and support the little guys. I still get the lecture though haha! I think I have more fun handing the toys out than the birds do at first:).

Kendra I have always wanted to go to parrot palooza. I too just got a lecture about my PayPal account[emoji53]. Who could not adore Rosie? Did you try My Safe Bird Store? They may have your thermal perch on sale.

Kim - gotta love the budget lectures!
Jef absolutely does not love Rosie. Sigh...
Thank you for the heads up. I actually got one from amazon $20 cheaper than bp. Same exact one so it worked out!!

No joke. At least until the kids are grown and settled and can take her.
If she didn't scream so much she might win him over. One day I am going to record the insanity of a bad morning here. Me running late and not down stairs by 7, Rosie screaming in her cage, kids screaming for me and Jef yelling Oh great, HERE WE GO!!!!

I mean about the bonding thing and that it's her natural outcry?

Yes, he understands why.
But the noise gets to him. I think for the first year or so it was constant screaming when I was out so his tolerence for her screaming is very low.
You have to remember he works from home so he hears her all day, as do the people he is on calls with. I am 100% sure it wouldn't be such an issue if he went to an office daily. His entire team teases him about Rosie. Every time they have an event their team has a parrot theme sometimes with parrot shirts they all wear. I can't tell you how much parrot themed items his boss has given him, it is insane. I think the last thing was a huge parrot hat that he left with his boss. When anyone sees a parrot or even a person dressed as a parrot they take pics and send them to Jef. They are always asking him for stories. It sucks bc even though they enjoy it and do it in fun, it really just rubs salt in the wound for my husband.

It sounds like it has become quite embarrassing for him while he's only trying to do his job. Certainly, no one likes to be teased about anything... especially about something they can't control. And of course Rosie has the mind of a child and simply doesn't understand why she can't have things her way and she only has her screaming ability to vent about it. I'm sorry that your family is forced to endure the situation :(
Has Jef tried either a 'noise cancelling' headset, handset or telephone for his business calls? A good noise cancelling microphone element only picks up the sounds that originate an inch or two away from it. You can buy them online. Just do a search for "noise cancelling" headset, handset, or telephone. If you get one I'm sure it will be easy enough to test with Rosie around ;). Just have a family member call your home and speak to someone who is using the device while Rosie is screaming. Oh, and they're not all the same... some work far better than others.
As a side note... Jef could invest in a David Clark aviation headset and somehow connect it to the telephone ;). Those things have extremely high quality noise cancellation properties. Your lips have to nearly be contacting the microphone element for your voice to be picked up - everything in the background is quite muted. And the densely insulated ear cups make you nearly deaf to the sounds around you. But that's probably not practical for Jef's situation, both because the DC headsets are relatively expensive, as well as somewhat restrictive for the wearer, and they would of course have to be modified to work with a telephone by someone who knows what they are doing. It was just a thought I had.
May you and your family find a workable way to increase the peace around there!
Yowza! Kendra, if your marriage lasts thru this phase of bird..it will last forever! Tim was THE WORST kind of hubby when Amigo came onto the scene. It normally works out and years down the road, you guys will laugh about the hard times :)

Thanks Tony. I think it is somewhat embarrassing when he is speaking with a client. With any of his team, it is just super annoying and distracting. Jef has a super good sense of humor, thank goodness. Which is why his co-workers tease him. By tease I mean good natured ribbing.
I am actually going to look into those headphones, thanks Tony. He mentioned he needed a new Bluetooth headset that would work with his cell. I think he is getting rid of the landline. If it is Bluetooth, it may work. Lord knows, I use my sons huge, ugly red beats by dre over ear headphones when I watch things on my ipad. They work well to block out noise!

Mare - agreed. I feel for both Jef and Rosie. But we agreed to bring her into the house so she is our family and we need to work it out.
Some days are worse than others. I have started putting Rosie in her cage with her favorite music station on when I leave. I used to leave her out as long as someone was home. But I think the routine of going in her cage for a snooze with her music cues her to Mommy is out. That way she doesn't yell every time she hears a noise in the house. It's been a few months and it seems to really help. :)
So once we get through this and the issue with him feeling that Rosie is always with me, which takes time from him we will be good. That should probably be right around the time both my kids hit their teens. Now that should be a fun ride!!!

Does she use the thermal perch? I thought about getting Josie one a few years ago, but saw mixed reviews and didn't. Today I saw an ad from bird paradise and now I think she needs one. Any thoughts?

Rosie loves hers. She uses it all year long. I also figure in case our furnace ever stops working at least she will have that. I really love it. We have the large size.
Check Amazon for prices as well if you decide to order. Even with the sale at BP, Amazon had a better price.

I wanted the cargo net for Josie, too, but like you said the price is high. They have a smaller similar item... I think its a seagrass mat. Its about 18x24 inches and only $4.95. I attached stuff to it and put it in the corner of her cage...she seems to like it.[Users must be registered and logged in to view attached photos or hyperlinks]

I have one of them for my goffins she sadly hasn't liked it so far, but I know a few birds that love those!
where did you find them for 4.95?

Bird paradise's online store. I added the toys. I bought a few, so the next one is going to be rolled with treats stuffed inside.

I got a stuffed one of those from BPs brick and mortar store. She liked it, she chewed the side off and removed all the goodies.

I wanted to get another one, but they were out of them last time I was there. Does Josie like hers?
Funny, Rosie has the same circle swing thing as Josie. The same coloring and everything. I think it is so cute! I got it for her when she was a baby thinking she might like it to cuddle. She never used it so I removed it. I should put it back in and see if she uses it now. Does Josie use hers?

Josie is a maniac on her wreath! She gets herself swinging so fast and she loves it. She rocks herself to sleep on it, too. The only problem is when she is settling in for the night and she is slowly swinging, it sounds like bed springs....for as long as it takes for her to fall asleep. Lol
She loved the seagrass mat last time, but doesn't seem to like my choice of toys this time.

I have to watch where I hang her toys because if she hits them she swings, she flips out...I would say the wreath is her favorite spot. I tried taking it and replaced it with a boing once, but she was a maniac on that too and kept falling. I don't put boings in anymore.
