Do you take your bird(s) to an avian vet?

Yes. he's not listed on the website you linked to on the other one, but he went through special avian training and used to have birds. One of two within 100 miles of me that I know of. He's good but he's more of a general practitioner for all small animals.

Not board certified :(. Unfortunately there are no ABVP-avian vets practicing in my state. Additionally, I've had some rather disturbing experiences with vets in my area. That hasn't rendered much peace of mind for me, or for my birds :(

Some vets are not avian certified but may be working on it. It takes a long time. At first I took Chipper to one of these vets but after I asked him some questions he did not know the answer to and knowing the severity of his illness I searched and found an ABVP. The difference was astounding to me. These vets are well educated and practiced with birds. Plus he even charges less than the regular vet!

Yes Tony, sadly there are not too many of them around and the ones that are practicing are usually in more populated areas.

Here's a link to another discussion we had back in May of 2013 about ABVP board certification:

We were attempting to clarify the difference between AAV (membership) and ABVP-avian (board certification) for our members.
