Whenever I put clean sheets on my bed, Orsino pretends to take a bath and usually ends up falling off his perch. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the noise of it - I think he thinks it sounds like water, so the wings go out wide and the crest goes right up, and he's tilting around to try and get under his wings...and thunks. I feel so bad for him, but he never used to do this, and we share a room so he's fairly close to my bed. He just looks so happy before he falls off his perch that sometimes I want to keep fluffing my sheet out so he keeps having fun, but inevitably I don't want him to get hurt. He'll then go into a big preening session right afterwards.

Is anyone else's bird silly enough to bathe in nothing but air like this?

Nope. But mine like to take real baths in their water bowls when they hear the vacuum cleaner ;). That's quite funny behavior on Orsino's part, though.. not to mention that it's quite cute! :th_biggrin:

It's adorable, I just feel so bad when I fluff my pillow and hear him thunk as he hits the bottom of the cage :D

Maybe. The vacuum cleaner for your guys, huh? My ladies hate the vacuum cleaner, whenever the noise starts they screech and go to the opposite ends of their cage.

It's always been a cue for my guys to get splashing around. And I've heard from others as well whose birds respond similarly to the vacuum cleaner sound.

Well Lady doesn't like the vacuum cleaner either so I bought a sweeper. Things are much easier now :).

We have a "swamp box" cooler and when it's on it blows special hard at the end of one of the sofas. If I have Sassy out she will hang out in that spot, on the sofa, and do the exact same thing you are speaking of, Jen! She hops around, fluffs her feathers, tries to hang upside down (over the edge), it's so funny..like she's getting a shower! She hasn't fallen off the sofa yet, though :)
