Meet Kiwi my 2 yr conure. I want a buddy for him but want another parrot that has different colors and personality.

So I want to know if they can live together in the same cage? Or they would need separate one?

Hello, mrjuanch... Welcome to Precisely Parrots. You have quite a pretty bird there :)

It's possible that they could live together in the same cage as long as it's large enough for both of them. If you're going to attempt something like this, it's always best to introduce the birds to one another gradually. If you can, first let them become familiar with each other in separate enclosures for a week or two. And that should only occur after a quarantine period of a few weeks for the new bird - to be certain that it has no illnesses which could transfer to your existing bird.

Also, be mindful that companion parrots may develop bond relationships with their cagemates and thus become less affectionate with their human caregivers. However, that will vary among species and the individual birds involved.

Perhaps some of our other members have some further advice for you.

I agree with plax on everything he said! Also in my experience with rescuing birds, conures usually bond to the mate and become less affectionate to other members of the family quickly.

Hi mrjuanch,
:th_welcome2: Kiwi is very colorful and cute. Plax and Jt are very experienced and I'm sure you can trust what they've posted. I often think about getting a friend for our little girl too, she once had one but he passed.
What species are you thinking about getting for Kiwi's friend?

Well mrjuanch,

There really is no way to know. Some birds take to others and some don't. I surely am no expert and hope more knowledgeable folks add whatever information that they can.

Lady (Alice) is correct. You can't know for sure until you have both birds and monitor their behaviors around one another for a while. It may or may not work out.

Birds, will be birds! I don't think there is any way to know if one bird will get along with the other, not till it happens, anyways. Kind of like people, or dogs, or cats..you just won't know till you try.

Our sun and gcc will not live together.. I think Starburst is jealous of Rain.. He was first in his eyes... And Rain is a homewrecker Lol..
