This is the time of the year when our birds can become bored with their food. The season is changing and cold weather is coming. Grocery stores are selling the seasonal foods we should be using now. Chia and hemp and various nuts are a healthy addition. You can also put any dry ingredients in a blender and get a powder to sprinkle on top of the winter foods. I am also sprinkling this [Users must be registered and logged in to view attached photos or hyperlinks] on top of my birds food.

I continue to up my birds diet for immune support. Tomorrow I am taking Chipper back to the avian vet as he is still vomiting some mornings. Let me know if you make any changes in your birds diet this time of year.

I just start planning for how many nuts I need to get in as they will be being harvested now. I don't like buying nuts that have sat all year round in a warehouse somewhere. I prefer getting them freshly picked then storing them in the freezer in air tight containers. Vittle Vaults containers work great.

Oh I'm going to be trying some pumpkin and squash to add to Lady's diet. We don't eat it much as I haven't grown up eating it or learned from my Mom or Dad on how to cook with it. Thank heaven for friends and recipe sites! I use chia seeds all year, to me they just add a little something visually to mostly whatever I am having, especially salad's :).

You know I have been thinking about this and I really don't think they become bored as much as it has to do with instincts. For example in the wild spring and summer is when fruits and veggies are plentiful and it seems to be when most birds are willing to eat them in captivity. Fall and winter is when they would have access to more seeds, nuts and winter type veggies which from what I have seen seems to also conside with what they prefer in capitvity. Most people have commented on different forums that their birds prefer seeds, nuts and pellets during these months. I think the birds are instinctually sticking to their wild eating habits rather than becoming bored.
