My niece sent me this and I wanted to share it with everyone. Many times foods that are banned in other countries are not banned in USA. Here is the link to this information. Decide for yourself. [Users must be registered and logged in to view attached photos or hyperlinks]

Great warning page, Dianne. Interestingly, though, I didn't see anything about Diacetyl or Acrylamide, which I thought would have both been banned within the EU countries by now. However, the page only shows a list of 10 items so I'm sure there are plenty of additional items that have been banned and would justify similar warnings.

Diacetyl is an ingredient in many processed foods. It provides the buttery flavor and aroma for margarines and other foods and it occurs naturally in alcoholic beverages such as beer. Studies have shown that Diacetyl may cause plaques to accumulate within the brains of laboratory animals. It's feared by some experts that the same may hold true for humans. As such, there is concern that Diacetyl may be a significant contributor to Alzheimer's Disease.

Acrylamide is a substance that forms in starchy foods during high-temperature cooking. It manifests at higher levels in browned or well-done foods. It has been determined that Acrylamide consumption poses a significant cancer risk in laboratory animals.

EDIT:
Researching a bit more, I've discovered that the EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) has dismissed the warnings that Diacetyl may contribute to Alzheimer's Disease. The gist of their position is that said claims are inconclusive because of the type of testing performed. We should be mindful that this is a far different thing from having scientific evidential proof showing that Diacetyl is not a contributor to brain plaques. My assessment, therefore, is that the potential still exists. Obviously the EU has not banned Diacetyl, though.

I'm ... never eating conventional chicken again... and I'm seriously going to start making my own bread at home... among other things on this list.

My biggest dream is to have about 1000 acres and produce my own food. Seriously, every time I look at the food I'm eating, I'm wondering what's in it. I don't eat a whole lot of processed foods either.

Thanks for your interest. I think if we could all stay away from processed foods in general we may not be introducing toxic into our body. I have never eaten farm raised fish out of a gut feeling and will go without if there is no wild caught to be had. Now my gut feeling is confirmed. I had a real treat last week. I found wild caught rainbow trout in a local Korean market and was it delicious. It is getting harder and harder to find quality fish that has not been frozen or is wild caught. Guess I need to hook up with a fisherman. My Yoga instructor is in her 40's and has grown her own organic veggies in a large garden for her whole life. She has never been to a Dr. and says she will never. Some of the students volunteer in her garden and bring home buckets of fresh foods. She even has free range chickens and eggs of course.

That sounds awesome. Every year I try to grow my own container vegetable garden on the balcony with organic soil and seeds ... but the squirrels always get to my food before it's fully ripe and I can pick it.... so at least the squirrels in the neighborhood are eating healthy!

It sure isn't easy to make good choices when the choices you have are mostly ones you would rather do without. Not only do we have to concern ourselves with the way we as a society tend to our grounds and water has anyone seen the movie What the heck are they spraying?

Here is the link if you have interest in seeing the movie

Then we have people with the attitude "I have eaten junk food all my life and I am not dead yet" Words from a friend I sent this link to.

hey, I've eaten my fair share of junk food, but there's a difference between toxic food and junk food. Toxic food is stuff like those on that list that actually contain chemicals and stuff that can cause PERMANENT DAMAGE. Junk food can be made without those.

If you can stick to organic, as much as possible, you are safer than most. If you eat veggies but have never tried organically grown veggies, you are in for an awakening! Over the years I've eaten less and less animal protein just due to the fact that my family has all gone mostly vegan on me. I use to LOVE a good steak,,roast chicken?..OMG! Now, when I eat these kinds of protein I wonder what I ever saw in them.? There are soo many unbelievably delicious vegetarian and vegan recipes out there, I don't miss meat, chicken or fish. For me, it came about slowly because I loved the flavor of beef and poultry so much but the more I tried of vegetarian and vegan food the more I became less enamored of flesh.

I am on the crossroads of becoming vegan, not only for my ever busy rescuing life. As well for my active life. I just have to jump that last hurdle really!

Yeah, it's hard Justin. For me, it was the fact that I love the flavor of beef/chicken/fish. My family is veg/vegan, I cook for them..I know how to cook, have some great vegan recipes so this made it easier :). PLUS!! I love all animals and all birds. My kids have reminded me ALWAYS that I am eating my friends :(

I for one believe that meat should be part of our diet, but can see where one could get away with out it and still be healthy. I also believe that most people eat way too much of it. I bet the consumption of meat would be cut drastically if everyone had to catch their own.
Honestly, I look at most food with suspicion anymore. If it's not the hormones in the meat and dairy products, it's the pesticides on the veggies and fruits. The genetically altered everything is just crazy.
I try to buy organic when I can, but it's not always possible. My niece and I found a stand of bananas growing wild in the middle of nowhere florida. I'll have to say that those bananas were the ugliest, best tasting bananas I've ever had.

Farmers markets are a good source for fresh, clean food. I've known folks that would buy their beef from 4H shows, this way they knew exactly how this animal was raised.

My biggest fight is why should an animals life be this simple: Grown as fast as possible, killed and butchered and eating and then forgotten 15 minutes later. Eating meat was an aspect of survival we no longer need to survive like that. I am not completely Vegan yet but I believe within the next year I could manage it. Just my thoughts on the aspect. I am with mare my only issues is the flavor of meat. As is anything meat is an addiction/ habit some people have to fight to break if they choose to:).

It's kind of strange. I once dated a vegan and whenever someone referred to eating meat he called it "eating flesh" making it sound much more gross.

I am with mare my only issues is the flavor of meat. As is anything meat is an addiction/ habit some people have to fight to break if they choose to:).I agree with you, Justin. It appears that I'm somewhat like you in that while I enjoy (and even crave) the taste of meat, I seldom actually eat any. The whole idea of raising sentient animals for slaughter has always bothered me. And when I say that I seldom eat meat, I mean very seldom! I actually used to eat quite a lot of it. In my view, though, there are so many reasons to not eat meat now. The disrespect, and the horror, and the suffering imposed upon the food animals are the very top ones! Then the for-profit aspect and the harmful substances food animals are frequently given to enhance production is a significant concern as well. While my craving for meat products hasn't seemed to diminish much, as it has for Mare, fortunately I have plenty of willpower :)
