So I got new carpet in my bird room. Was going to get bamboo but boy you can't get that stuff wet at all! So we made a quick decision to do a low burber. Anyway, what I was wondering was how long do you all think I should air out Mina's room? She has been camped out in our bedroom for a week now and hating it. I have been keeping her and our little pug separated for Mina's safety only to turn around when Olive was sleeping the other day and Mina had climbed onto the bed and full on all feathers up wings out attacked my poor pug. So the quicker she can be back in her room so we can have happy playtime and she can be out and play safely with her toys the better😮

Different carpets may have different chemical treatments, so there can be varying times for new carpet to become safer. One week seems reasonable to me. Before moving Mina back to the room, try and be as certain as possible that any odor from the new carpet has substantially diminished. Leave a window open in the room for a while if you can. It couldn't hurt to have an air purifier running as well.

You should have tried making arrangements with the place you bought it from that they air it out for you a couple of weeks. My understanding is that it is something that could have been done.
I would still wait at least another week and then ask someone that does not live there, to come over and let them sniff the air and carpet itself and see what they can smell.

Renee' I just found out they did that for people. I'm a little upset with them since they knew specifically it was going in a parrot room and great care needed to be taken with smell. No glues that type of thing nothing sprayed I told them. So I'm a little miffed. It's been 3 days and still stinks to high heaven. I just got a window fan to pull it out. Mina spent today in her cage. Olive our pug is newly diagnosed with diabetes so she was very sick. So we all watched Mulan and Tinkerbell. I feel so bad if she has to have a cage day though. Stinking carpet!!! Try to do something good and it backfires grrrr.

Any update on the carpet smell Kim? Have things finally gotten back to where you have everyone back in the bird room?

Sorry to keep you all hanging on the carpet. Our little pug went into DKA diabetic ketone acidosis she has been in intensive care for a week. We hope she comes home tomorrow. The smell is finally all gone. It took a good week maybe 10 days to get all out of there. Mina was totally ready to have her room back. I am going to wash the carpet due to the fact that mina is a "digger". She goes to the door and rubs her beak back and forth like she is diggin her way out. Then she sticks food toys under the door. So I'm worried about the chemicals in the carpet. I don't want them on her beak then her skin etc...
Boy oh boy, just when I was excited to hear about Mina's recovery, now your little pug is having a difficult time :upset:.
I hope he gets better soon, and I'm hopeful that the vet has some good words to say to you tomorrow.
I'm glad to know your carpet is finally ready, Kim. And I'm sad to hear about your little pug dog :(. Hopefully her condition has improved by now... please let us know. I think the hardest part of having dearly cherished pets in our lives is coping with their illness and accidents :(
