This is so amazing to me :th_jawdrop: ...you may remember how I've described that Zaffer has been afflicted with a deep fear of certain toys and various objects since he arrived here 9 years ago. Especially ones that are made from colored plastic and/or have an elongated shape. Well, during Zaf's broken leg recovery period I began conditioning him to feel more comfortable around several toys that used to terrify him. As a result, he has become desensitized to quite a few objects, and he now plays with many things that he wouldn't previously go near. Today he managed to sneak over to one of my TV remote controls with the intent to chew on it. Unbelievably, he actually carved a "Z" into the back of it with his beak. I pulled the thing away from him once I noticed it was in his grasp... and lo and behold, there's actually what looks to be the letter "Z" now etched into the back surface of said remote! I've snapped some photos. Have a look...

It reminds me of 'The Mark of Zorro!' ;). And BTW, Zaf made those scores on the battery cover as well.

Oh my goodness, what are the chances his beak would of made a Z, almost like he was marking it as in .....now it's his.... see it has my initial on it. LOL! Yes, it does look like the "Z" for Zorro. My goodness I haven't thought about that show in ages.

You did well desensitizing him from the scary toys.

That's awesome! I'm happy to hear he's overcome his fear :). When he chews the buttons off I'm sure you'll still save it because it will be a signed piece of art!

I realize that lots of folks have items which their birds may have...uhhm...modified a bit (or a lot in some cases) ;). But how many people have an item that has actually been signed by their bird with his correct initial? :D

So true, Tony :). My cockatoo's signatures look NOTHING like Zaf's! If Amigo got ahold of the changer, you could not identify it by the time he was done with it!

And I'm sure if I weren't so quick to take my remotes away from Zaf when he grabs them, they would likely become mangled masses of useless plastic as well ;)

Tony that is so great! I love it. You better buy a back up remote in case the Zaf wants to modify it some more. I think it's wonderful he is becoming desensitized and can enjoy things.

Tony that is so great! I love it.I'm glad you like it, Kim. I think it's pretty cool, too :th_biggrin:

You better buy a back up remote in case the Zaf wants to modify it some more.He does want to continue modifying it! Believe me!! Thankfully I do happen to have another remote that kind of works on the particular tv. If Zaf manages to have his way with the remote that came with the tv, the other one should get me by for a while at least ;). One main concern of mine now, though, is that Zaf may grab the monogrammed remote again and ruin the Z he made :(

I think it's wonderful he is becoming desensitized and can enjoy things. You and me, both!
