View Full Version : Gnarly Fire! Too close to home!
We had a fire start in my home town of Oakhurst , CA, yesterday and it is a rager! It ripped through town and changed the whole atmosphere of so many people's lives in just one day. 13,000 people were evacuated from their homes (I think the total population on the town sign reads 13,300). This drought has made our safe haven a not so safe place to be :(

Oh no Mare !! Im worried for you .
Thanks, Terri. We are safe from this fire, we live down hill from it. My concern "for us" would be a fire downhill from us. We know so many people being affected from this one,,small town, many loved ones.
Geez, how scary! Prayers are being sent to you and your town. May our merciful Lord keep all of you close to Him during this difficult time, in Jesus name, Amen

Those fires are pretty scarey. My parents have had to evacuate several times when they lived up the hill. I went to visit one time and saw only chimneys left. My thoughts and prayers to everyone there. Stay safe.
Do whatever it takes to stay safe, Mare! That's extremely frightening :(. I wish safety for everyone in the area! Please keep us posted!!

I know someone that lives in the SW portion of Oregon who last year had fires raging all around her. She has lots of birds, in outdoor aviaries and she decided not to pack up and leave. She was really lucky, she lives down in a valley and to get out she has to climb out and that is where the smoke was all at. We worried about her to say the least. I can't remember exactly what type cloth thing she used on all the aviaries but she would wet it down and the smoke was not getting to the birds, it was clean air.
One of the other neighbors that stuck around told her someone on motorcycles I think it was, was asking who all stuck around. Casing the place to see what houses were unoccupied? Probably, but no houses were looted at least.
Stay safe and I am sure you have a plan of what needs to be grabbed if it comes to that.
Thank you, to everyone. My daughter is here and is putting into place an evacuation plan. I've always known what I would do, just in case, with my animals/birds/dogs/horses/cats but hadn't given much thought to material things like photos/art/vehicles. She was worried about her favorite stuffed animals and childhood books that I've saved :). We are going to designate a day next week to boxing up things we would need to take in a hurry.
