Hi all. I'm new, looking to chat with other bird owners as I know very few these days. I'm Jen, and I'm a proud bird-mama to Rosalita (Nanday Conure), Orsino ("The Cockatiel"), and Dorienne/Dori (Lovebird). I found my 'tiel seven years ago on the street and could never find his owner, so he adopted me permanently, not the other way around - he came with a busted foot and a heart of gold, I didn't like birds until I met him. Rose I took in as a foster from a coworker who could no longer take care of her, and kept, she's considered my mother's bird and likes to chat at the least convenient times, like when I'm trying to do work. Dori is the only bird I didn't adopt/didn't adopt me (actually bought her, from a respected breeder), she's a four-year-old lovie with an attitude problem. Currently she's my problem child, she pulled a few too many feathers in one area and is getting nesty (she doesn't have a mate, unless you count her Chewbacca angry birds stuffed animal, which she adores, but won't produce actual offspring) and she's bored because I won't let her chew up my textbooks anymore. We're usually all found yelling at each other, chewing things we shouldn't get into, and cleaning up spilled seed or chewed junk mail in our own ways.

I'm currently a Barista at a local bookstore/café in Missouri, I also occasionally do copywriting and go to school online for my BA in creative writing. Dori is attempting to be a professional homemaker/homewrecker, Orsino is a male 'tiel model (he thinks - he poses for the camera, that ham), and Rose is just sponging off of grandma until something better comes along.

Hi Jen! Thanks for joining us :)

You have an interesting group there. It sounds like Dori can be a bit of a challenge at times. And I'm guessing that Orsino is your best little buddy. How close am I?

Thanks so much for taking in Orsino and Rose... it always warms my heart to hear about birds in need finding forever homes :). My mother has a Nanday Conure, too. He loves to screech incessantly at people whom he doesn't often see. He's quite a cutie, though. If you get a chance please post some pics of your guys!

And BTW, we are trying to pick up activity here again, so please feel free to post away :)

Hi Plax! Thanks for the warm welcome. I'd say you're right on. Dori's a little handful (lovely, but a noisy little speed demon sometimes), Orsino and I are two peas in a pod - we both hate mornings, are pretty quiet, and completely - hilariously - accident proned. I'm trying to upload some pics but my camera card is acting wonky, but as soon as I can get photos to upload of my little clowns, I'll post 'em!

Rose loves to chat. She'll scream at anyone she doesn't know out the window, nearly deafening my mom. She actually has a decent vocabulary and will occasionally hold a mini-conversation with people. She loves saying "Good morning Rose" and "Night-night!", and whenever she sees me getting ready for work with my black dress pants, it's "Bye-bye!"

They're all characters, there's never a dull moment in my house.

Ah, sounds like a lot of fun around there. My mother's Conure, Bosley, seems very much like your Rose. He talks to himself a great deal. They can sure have their trying moments... but ya gotta love 'em! ;). I wouldn't be without my guys!!

I hope you are able to get your pic issue resolved.

Hi Jen, welcome to the forum. Your feathered friends sound like they are characters. It will be fun hearing about them and pics are great.

Yes, Rose used to be owned by a teenager, so she talks on the "phone" and everything. quite the character! Nandays are hillarious.

I love your little monster, she cute and does look like a monster. Your nanday has the best name. Sounds like some of the names around my place.

Aww, Dori looks so adorable :D ...I certainly can't detect her attitude from your photos ;)

It's easy to see Orsino's aura of sweetness. He looks so happy and content. I do notice his lame foot, though. The poor little guy :(

And I love Rose's full name: "Rosalita Consuela Chiquita Banana" hahaha!

Thanks so much for sharing your pics, Jen ...they're great! :D

Haha! Thanks, 2Birds and PlaxMacaws. I used to live in Los Angeles, to me that's "normal", although we did have a bit of fun with some of her middle names. She's south-american after all, and completely cracked, so how could we not? She's bananas. She has an odd story, too, apparently originally a breeder bird that a teenage former co-worker of mine took in, then couldn't take with her to college. She's now a loving (if slightly looney) noisy Nanday.

Yes, Dori is known as the Kraken for a reason, she's all cute and cuddly but when you let her out, move your fingers until she get settled in.

Orsino does so well despite the foot. One of these days I"m going to have his feet tattooed on me. Speaking of him, I just got crest feathers on the shoulder, that means head scratching time... a bird mom's job is never done ;)

Hi Jen! A big WELCOME! So happy to see you've joined us with your spunky flock, they are awfully cute! It's good to know you rescued little Orsino from, sounds like, sure death! I also have a cockatiel that was found outside, I guess they get away easily :(. Anyways, glad we'll be seeing you around! :th_biggrin:

I'm originally from the L.A. area too. No wonder why I like it

I just have to post this because I'm so thrilled - took Dori to the vet today, and she's just fine. She'd swelled up like she was going to have a clutch and then this morning she was flat-tummied again, so I thought she might have an infection or something else happened, as there were no signs of eggs anywhere when mom cleaned her cage this morning. The vet checked her out, no eggs stuck in there, signs of abdominal stretching were going away, and she was in perfect health other than a discolored tummy from the expansion. So she is either a cannibal (ate her egg) or she was just a hormonal little brat, but she got a clean bill of health all over. I was worried. Phew, bullet dodged.
