View Full Version : All HELL has broken loose!!
It is 108 degrees here in the central Cal foothills and let me tell you, it does not feel good,,inside or out of the house! Tim and I just hooked the bamboo sun shade to the side of the house where the sun hits the bird room window. The swamp box/water cooler is not doing the job in this kind of heat with the humidity also high. I am totally wilting and I can't believe the birds are bitching about the new shade! :) I actually can believe it,,they are such weirdos! :th_biggrin:

O geez thats to much for me, i'd move to Antarctica before that.
No you wouldn't, Justin. I bet you would endure as well as your birds would. When it gets this hot here, I have to remember where these birds originated from. Then I think about growing up in the deserts of California and then, I think I wished I'd lived on another planet at that time! :th_biggrin:

Last year my temps got up to over 100 too and that one day I took out of the freezer a chicken breast to defrost and it only took 10 minutes to do a good enough number without it going the other way where I would have to worry about salmonella growing.
Think cool thoughts, swimming under a water fall in Hawaii, gong to the North Pole and laying in the snow but if you start feeling frost bite, don't blame me.

I'd take what you have over the 100 degrees here with 85% humidity. The summers here make me dream of out west. My hair has not been strait since the 80's. lol.

2birds, NC is awful for humidity...I have 80's hair naturally, but had a Japanese perm done....now my hair is straight, shiny, and silky! It is actually permanent until you cut it out, I love it!!! I wake up looking like a movie star every day, with no time or trouble at all! :) 100 degrees with 90% humidity? No problem for the hair at least! Me, I would rather a nice 80 degrees! :)
I've seen some beautiful permanent straightenings, I've only done 1, on my daughters boyfriend. He had beautiful, past shoulder length hair, (which I would have killed for), and he asks me to straighten it! It came out perfect, silky straight and he HATED it! He freaked! I would recommend having someone do a really good job of flat ironing your hair first, before going directly to a straightening, just to see if you like it! :)
Yeah, Lori, the humidity PLUS heat is way worse! I grew up in the desert of southern Cali, near Palm Springs. The desert heat of summer was always up in the 110's. When Palm Springs area started to grow, more and more pools and lawns and golf courses went in and the humidity started to rise. This is not where you want to be in the summer, for sure!!

Mare I grew up out that way in the L.A. area. My dad and stepmom live near palm springs now. They were living up there in Lake Arrowhead (about five thousand feet up in San Bernardino) and I don't know how they can stand that desert heat now. I guess they just stay in the house. Honestly, I do want to be there. I miss it, I miss the smell of it. Winning the lotto and getting a few acres in S.L.O. or Arroyo Grande would be nice :)
SLO is the dream town, any coastal town, really. Growing up in the desert is what made me so anti-heat! Along with the heat comes a wind,a very dry wind. Ick..in my mind, not a good feeling. My parents, on the other hand, were born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. They loved, loved, loved,,the desert!

The desert to me is like having a blow dryer set on high heat blowing in your face all of the time.
