Does anyone have experience with the Meyers parrot? My niece and I would like to know what it is like to be owned by one. She has been possibly offered one and wants to know what they are like in general.

Well I have experience with them and many of them in the family: red bellieds, senegals, jardines etc... My experience with being owned by them is it takes some serious knowledge of the whole family. red bellieds and meyers have been some of my biggest issues when doing behavioral work. If they are worked with properly they are great and really animated. They tend to bond strongly to one person and can be socialized, but you have to start the process right away. I guess what I am saying is they arn't for the beginners or someone quick to throw stereotypes like this bird only likes men or women or blah, blah.
great birds( the whole family), I would suggest them to someone with experience and dedication for them. Although they have given me some of the worst bites ever lol..
I own a senegal and a red bellied, the senegal is amazing in every way honestly and the red bellied has huge phobia issues we work on a lot. the meyers I have met came around because of aggression usually not only towards humans but other animals, I will say they changed around nicely and were great birds!
any more questions just feel free to ask!

The woman that has her breeds them. She said that this little girl is not happy in this situation and really just wants to be around people thus the reason for the thought of letting my niece have her. The thing is I have to decide if this is something that I want as well because more than likely the bird would be staying at my house to start with and also may be here at intervals throughout it's life. My niece is young and we all know how things can change. I do know that she would be a constant in the birds life even if it did stay with me at times though.
