I was speaking to my dad today. He has Alzheimer disease that is getting worse and worse. He still knows who I am, but goes off on these interesting tangents. One thing he said to me that really stuck out was this.

"Always ask for what you want, not what you think you will get." "Think about what you want, ask for it, and just relax and go with the flow."

I don't know where that came from but for some strange reason I found this uplifting. I love my dad. :) :th_heart:

Aww..yeah, wise words, indeed. I'm so sorry your dad is going through this,,what a debilitating disease :(. Maybe your dad is telling you to GO for what you want, it doesn't hurt to try! :).

My dad hasn't been diagnosed with alzheimers but he's showing all the signs... I feel for you...

My grandpa had it.. He was a great man.. I saw what it did to him... Enjoy these moments. :)

My dad has always been a great guy. He's always been a gentle person and always made us laugh. I figure that if kids and dogs love you then you must be a good person.
It was really funny because he kept saying "just relax and go with the flow, next thing you know, you're walking on the beach, you're driving in the parade, but you know that already. don't you?" "If you have a question, just relax because the answer is already there, just ask the question." "But you know that, right?"
And then he kind of shifted gears and started talking about the time he was tooling around in a jeep at the north pole and how he met these really nice people. It was all I could do to keep a straight face and listen.

Sounds like your dad is awesome! He has great advice, but he knows you already know it. He did a good job teaching you!

It must be entertaining to listen to his stories. My grandfather is in his 90s and although he has always been a quiet man, he has started sharing some of his life stories. My husband and I love hearing them. :)

Kendra, I think that my dad was making up the thing about the north pole. I really don't think he's ever been there in reality. It was funny though, at least he has an imagination. My grandmother passed in 2001 at 96 yrs of age and sharp as a tack all the way to the end. I loved listening to her recount of events in her life. She had seen a lot and what a century to be born in where everything had changed so fast.

Somehow, that makes the story even better!!! :)

It is very cool to hear about the past, isn't it? Especially from a loved ones point of view.
