Sorry it took me so long but had trouble downloading photo's. Hope this works! The pictures are not in order but oh well! Luci and I in a selfie last photo and it was taken last week. luci came to me with some issues and I have taken her off her meds. Her chest is looking better as you can see in the first photo. Her appetite is better and her diet has changed, her energy level has improved now that she is off the drugs. I also am letting her wings grow out and she can fly well. She has had her wings clipped for over fourteen years. Her chest looked bare again a month ago but now full of down feather's similar to first photo shown. She has very few pin feather's around her chest. I am so confused about how long it takes for pins to come in. The previous owner said she had feather's on her chest July of 2013 and it should fill in again. She said Luci would break off the feather's not pluck them when she left for vacation and they would always grow back. I have taken her for a full check up with one of the top Avian Vets in the state, her name is Teresa Lightfoot at Blue Pearl in Tampa, FL and all was good. The doctor said mutilation is mutilation it doesn't matter if she breaks them off or pulls them out the result is the same. Sometimes it can take a year and maybe they won't come back. Only time will tell. I love her either way but would love her feather's to grown back. Her cheeks have so much more color than when I got her. I have an outdoor cage that I just started putting her in for 30 40 minutes a day and she loves it and it gives her the sun she needs and it was also recommended by the Dr as well. We live on the water and she loves the view and I make sure she can get out of the sun if she wants to by positioning the cage a certain way. Its very hot in Florida so I have to pick the time of day for her and I never have her out of site! I put the death grip on her and I am very cautious about transporting her in and out of the outside cage. I can't do it with Poe because he can and would get away from me. I would love to close in my porch with Stainless Steel mesh so I could alternate the birds outside with 100% safety. I am working on it but just can't find anyone here who knows anything about it. I would like to do it in away that wouldn't destroy the looks of the house. I don't want screen because I want the more open environment and sun for the birds. Poe is magnificent man but very cautious of any stranger's and spooks easy! He has had some bad landings and it scares me he could hurt himself. He gets to showing off and sometimes he spirals out of control. Luci is so sweet, a lady in every way. She has been socialize and been in public a lot and will go to just about anyone. I am doing another photo shoot with her next Friday to raise money for the local bird Rescue. This one is at night! Don't like bringing her out at night but I have done it before and all went well. Wish me look.
Wow, thanks for posting those wonderful photos of your amazing Palms!! And thanks for including all of the details about them :). I hope Luci's feathers will all grow back in... as you've said, only time will tell on that. It would indeed be a great thing for each of your birds to have an effective and safe enclosure for your porch. Keep thinking on it and talking to folks and I'm sure something will develop.
Zaf has been prone to startle and has thus crashed a number of times as well. The worst result, of course, was when he broke his leg last year :(. He has also fractured the tip of his beak a few times from panic flight crashes. He doesn't seem to startle much anymore, thankfully. But I'm still very careful with him nonetheless!
My B&G, Jack, is somewhat of a plucker. He has cleared the feathers from below and above his wings, as well as from the inner portions of his legs. In his case, the feathers won't grow back :(. He has been too persistent about the plucking for the past 8 or 9 years. Jack's bond mate, Maynard (my Military Macaw) rejected him and started attacking him when Zaf came to live with us. Jack was devastated by this and began to pluck. You can't really see much of it in his photo on our banner above... except for the small amount of bare skin on the inside of his leg.
Thanks so much for sharing you photos of Luci and Poe! :D

Luci outdoors. See her checks how red. They use to be so pale. This is not just the sun although it has helped I think. Her diet is a big part I'm sure. But you can see the back ground of the photo which shows the columns. I need someone who can think outside the box and come up with some kind of frame for the stainless steel mesh that would look good. I have tried backing up cage to double french doors but to much opening and not safe for taking the birds in and out of. I had a carpenter built a ramp for the threshold of the doors so I could pull the cage inside the house. He also installed 4" rubber wheels to make it easier for me to move the cage. Bottom line its just to loud rolling it on the deck and to heavy for me. I can do the death grip on Luci and she is fine with it. She not a crazy bird like Poe with all the energy and showboating!!!!! Poe should be in the movies. He is a Rock Star! Luci is a lady at all times. She wants to please and does!

Yes, her cheeks look very red there! I'm sure the sun helps with her red skin pigment, just as it does with the vividness of the yellow skin pigment on the facial skin of Hys.
Could you possibly check with your avian vet and/or with some aviaries in your area to find out whether they may have recommendations on someone who could help you plan for, and perhaps even build an SS enclosure structure for your porch?

I just tried buying a Bennett's Aviary but the guy ended up selling it to his ex he said. It had been designed to have 1/2 inside the house and the other 1/2 was outside on the deck with the sliding glass door in the middle. The outside portion was attached to the house and so there was no way for a bird to escape out. Not sure what year he bought it but the price at that time was 12K. Total length was 12 ft, width and height was 7 ft.
Or, check out the "Pet Liberator" [Users must be registered and logged in to view attached photos or hyperlinks]
Oh how I wish I was rich :th_wink:
You mention SS mesh. Do you have a pic of that?

I think I need someone on site for this job. Wouldn't chance with all the detail on my porch it could be done any other way. It is beautiful. I could see that being done with slider doors but mine swing out. I would love to have one of the traveler cages. Have you ever seen one in person? Thanks for sharing.

I have. Its funny no one in this area knows or has done any aviaries. I am involved with the local bird rescue and they manage to erect whatever. It works! I have the best carpenter so really I just need to come up with a way to structure it and he can do the rest. Just something I like the looks of. It needs to be able to stand up to high winds is the main thing. If you noticed the lattice work on the bottom of the porch rails. I put that up so my 2 pounds dogs don't fall threw the rails when they are getting a little sun. I thought I could extent the lattice all the way to the top of the rail and it just leaves the upper for stainless steel mesh. I don't have to worry about the birds going threw the plastic lattice because I don't plan on leaving them unsupervised on the porch. Funny so far my birds aren't destructive. They just fly from point A to B to C. Whatever I set up they land on. Once in a while Poe lands on the theatre seats, NOT GOOD. OMG that would be horrible. He knows he's not allowed so it makes it even more fun for him.

I say give Bennett's a call and see what they can tell you. After seeing how they dealt with the detail for attaching The Pet Liberator to a house, I would talk to them.
I have never seen their Travel Carrier but know of someone that owns one. If I could afford them I would buy 3
