I got back on Sunday from a weeks trip with my mom. I left the zoo with my husband and I was a bit nervous about it. Especially about my little red diva, Rosie.

It is no secret that Jef doesn't have a whole lot of love for my girl. She screams whenever I leave her line of vision and it makes Jef insane. It also makes me insane, but I don't say anything as I don't want to feed into his complaining. :) So this is why I was nervous to leave her. I knew he wouldn't do anything to harm her, but I also did not expect him to give her all the attention she is used to. I am a worrier by nature and decided to try not to think about it and just hope for the best or else I would be a wreck the entire week.

When I called, everyone assured me that things were great. Ashie sent me videos and some pics but the internet connection in Bermuda was fluky so I couldn't watch them. Again, I just prayed they were telling me the truth and tried to put it out of my mind.

I got home late Sunday morning. I was happily surprised to see Rosie dancing (no screaming) and Ashie dancing with her and chatting on about all they had done together. Ash was especially excited that Rosie was allowing her to pet her entire body - even her back! Then Jef excitedly started telling me how Rosie was flying and making turns and how cool it was. He then told me a few happy stories about my diva that occurred while I was away. For a minute, I thought, have I walked into the wrong house??? Have aliens taken over my families bodies? But, nope, I was home. It seems my vacation forced everyone to become closer and more accepting of each other. I had a great trip, but honestly, that was the best part of my whole week away!!!

Don't get me wrong, Rosie is keeping an eagle eye on me and does contact call when she thinks I have strayed too far. Jef has rolled his eyes and muttered a bit. But they seem to have a much better understanding and respect for each other. I can only hope that it lasts!! What a great surprise. :)

That is awesome!! It's always great when things go way better than you thought they would.

Oh, this is great, Kendra! It's truly wonderful when these birds accept "the others"! :). I remember when I was leaving mine for the first "times" and was a mess, thinking my bird wouldn't survive without me. Boy oh boy, was I ever wrong! Glad you had a good trip!

That's pretty darn cool, Kendra :). Hopefully now you'll feel more at ease when you leave in the future.

Thanks everyone!

Yes, they are all still friends. Rosie is actively seeking Connor out, which is so cute. I got a video of them playing yesterday, which made me so happy. She has been trying to say his name, but generally just calls him PEEK! and sometimes cookoo. ;)

hopefully this will be the last of the screeching Kendra and next time you go away everyone will be more relaxed :)

Thanks Jules!

I wish I could say the screaming was a thing of the past. But my boss screams whenever I stray too far. Since summer has started and the pool is open, I go out quite a bit. She has an outdoor cage, but since she screams if I get 5 feet from the cage it's a problem unless I know I am going to stay in her cage area. If I should go to the pool, she screams even though she can see me. Since I like my neighbors, I leave her in more than I'd like. Sigh...

Hi, Kendra :). Just a word on the screaming. Ignore it. I know it's hard but if they know you are responding to it, it will always be that way. It may take a while to break this habit, warn the neighbors about what you are trying to accomplish :). But I tell ya, it eventually worked for me and made our home a much happier place to be.

Thank you Mare!!! Jef and I just discussed this and we are going to try. I usually respond so she stops when Jef is working. But he said we can try. I just have to get the kids on board. ;)
