Well, My friend Julia and her husband came to look at the birds and Kilo instantly took a liking to her (as I knew he would) and she fell head over heals in love with him. I told her to keep an open mind to see who gets along with who but I was secretly hoping that she would choose Lilliput and hoping for a little more time for Kilo to change his mind about me. We went to lunch so they could think on it (my insistence, lol). When we got back she still loved Kilo so that was it. I brought a carrier in and when he saw it he tried to get away from her and when she tried to get him he bit her. She said "Kilo, be nice to mommy, don't bite". I went to get him and he hopped right on my hand and he got into the carrier. Go figure, now he'll come to me. Anyway, we loaded up his cage and off they went. I felt so bad and cried. I really liked that bird.
About three hours later she called me and told me that they had his cage set up and he was flying and following her all over the house and eating melon, unsalted wheat thins, and berries. He was bopping to music and talking up a storm. Oh, and he tore up her phone. :th_hehe: I forgot to mention to her that he likes to watch videos on the phone.
So, all of this drama in my head for nothing. He's having a ball. She's been giving me daily updates and he seems to be having a good time. I will be seeing him tomorrow.

I must have missed something. I didn't know Kilo was going to another home! I am glad he has settled with his new owner though :)

Not so much that I wanted to give Kilo a new home but Julia and her husband had been looking for a bird for quite a while. They would always go to this place to adopt a bird but Gatorland would always come up with more money so they would get the bird and my friends would loose out. They've been together for two years but just got married. I had wanted to give them a bird for a wedding gift but Julia had told me to hold off until her family had left. They were all here for her daughters wedding. Sometimes I had considered giving her Kilo because he just doesn't like me. Meanwhile little Lilliputs came into the picture so I thought maybe she would like her and had hoped Kilo would change his mind about me. I know, a lot of stuff going on. Now everything is settled, Kilo loves Julia and Kevin and they love him, Clover and Lilliputs are with me and everyone is happy. Seriously, Kilo would just sit on his perch and look depressed until someone would come over and then he would light up. Lilliputs has really warmed up to me. A different bird than Kilo though. Kilo is very cool. Lilliputs is a little high strung and plucks a little. She is very sweet though and is calming down a bit.
I would also like to add.
Always, when I get an animal, in my head that means that I have it for all of it's life and are treated like family members. After saying that, I would have to say that I have never gotten a pet that that had such an adversity to me. If I thought for one minute that depressed nature was just who Kilo was I would keep him for life. But I know different. I see what a lively character he is with other people and feel like that is the life he deserves. I'm really glad he is having fun now.

sounds like kilo was more of a bird who prefers to be the only one. its good that he has settled and lives close to you so you can see him often :)

Yes, I'm really happy about that :) He is living with my best friend of 27 years and is more like a sister to me.

I know you are saddened and happy at the same time. Saddened because of the loss of what might have been a nice relationship -- eventually, and happy that he's finally in a home that makes HIM happy. I say good for you giving him what he wants/needs over what you hoped would happen. The bonus in this is that you still get to be in his life somewhat!
So, I say this is good news!
Lori, I'm happy to hear you did what's best for Kilo, it sounds like a good place for him and you being good, close friends with his new person, well, that's a bonus situation!

I saw Kilo yesterday and he is doing great and loving life. He is very active and Julia is smitten with him. Mare, if I didn't know Julia so well and know what a kind, loving and gentle person she is, Kilo would have had to just stick it out with me.

So happy to read that Kilo is thriving in his new home! You did the right thing, which I'm sure was very difficult for you!
