What are all your handy tips for easier parront keeping?

I will start us off :)

I put hard plastic sheets on the walls around Codie's cage. This stops all the fruit being splattered over the walls. All I have to do now is wipe the plastic :)

Share your tips! It can be absolutely anything :)

I stack newspapers over the grate [and throw away the top one each day] big clean on Fridays . I just got a food processer [its the best thing ever!!!] I can use less fruits and vegs . It cuts them up in such a nice size. Ive learned how to take old toys and bend apart the o ring with pliers. I salvage the good parts and make new toys .

I swear by grapefruit seed extract. I use poop off to get the poop off then spray GSE and wipe off. I use that as a disinfectant. I use cage papers that I order. So I clean her grill and pans each night. I think it cuts down on the scrubbing. I have the whole thing down to 5 min. Then big cage clean each month with Mango sanitizer. Can you tell I'm a fanatic about her cage. It's say over all grapefruit seed extract is my most used item.

The baby wipes are used to wipe the poop off the grate once the poop off has been sprayed on.

Buy shade cloth at your local garden center and clip it to the back of the cage to keep walls neat and clean!

Umm, George that may work with normal parrots like yours. But if you have psychotic chewers like my Catalina macaws all your efforts and dollars have gone to the dumpster! LOL Roscoe will chew up anything he can get his grubby drum sticks on reaching through the enclosure blocks of his home. Oh the stories the shower curtains I use to pull across in front of their walk in home could tell. I'll have to see about posting a photo of one poor curtain that met it's maker after he ripped it to shreds.

I'd have to say my best thing I ever did for my macaws was to put them in the walk in enclosures. I love being able to just walk right up to their bowls and sweep up their floor when a total clean up is in progress. They each have a 5'X5'X6' home with all natural tree limbs. :)

I clean all Codie's bowls, perches and toys (Not the wooden ones) in the dishwasher. They come up like new :)
