I love the message being sent here. If we all make an effort, change can happen for the better :)

It bums me out when I get in a market and had forgotten my recycled bags at home :(

Well, I'm a day late on celebrating the actual Earth Day, but like the article said: "Every day is earth day". :)

Everyone here should be contributing their part in at least one way. And that is by recycling paper products that can be used as bird toys and foraging items. I know Terri & Maddy does and I do to a point. I know I could be using many more paper/cardboard items than I have been using and I do find myself starting to throw away something and saying, "Wait, that would be fun for the fiddies to tear up." When you have destroyers like macaws, you learn to make your own toys in a hurry. Nothing lasts very long and store bought stuff is like giving them play dough to rip apart along with your hard earned money in about 2 seconds flat!!

We have to recycle things here in the UK. We have all different bins for certain things and if we don't do this, we get fined! We also have large recycling bins in the carparks of all supermarkets where you can put clothes, bottles, household goods, etc, etc.

I know what you mean, De'Andrea, around here all cardboard, toilet paper rolls and paper towel rolls, egg cartons, oatmeal boxes, get stuffed in the bird cages and are turned to mulch! I spent some time in Japan with my brother, about seven years ago and they, too, have the mandatory recycle bins everywhere, or get fined. That was the first time I'd witnessed that, such forward thinking :)

I wish we had the recycle bins here too. The only thing is that those of us who live in the country would have another monthly expense to have the recyclable things picked up and hauled off. Or, have to have a truck to lug the items into town to a public drop off place. That could be a hardship on someone. I did notice while perusing the American Classifieds (Thrifty Nickel) that they put an ad in there stating that behind their offices, there's a place to pick up left over ads. It specifically stated for lining cages. I thought that was great.

Unfortunately, our eggs come in styrofoam cartons. I wish we could get the cardboard ones. Lucy would love foraging through one of those.

Since we've recently started letting Lucy have papers lining her grate, stuffed in toilet paper rolls, and wadded up with almonds in them we've actually been buying papers or picking up the American Classifieds (Thrifty Nickel). We also have given her a small box (didn't think she'd fit in it but she showed us she could) and she loved it. It's pretty much demolished. So now we see a box and ask ourselves if it would fit in her cage. We've discovered she loves thick cardboard boxes. Not so much the ones you find pop in. lol
