I thought that I had lost my Peatree tonight. :(

About two hours ago, I walked in my room to grab Peatree to take a shower with me. When I looked over to her cage, she wasn't in or on it. I looked around my room to see if she had flown to her favorite landing spots, my lamp or my bed. She wasn't on either. I then starting searching harder and calling out her name to try and find her. After searching for five minutes, there was still no sign of her anywhere. She didn't even let out a squawk or word. I was starting to get very worried, so I went out to tell my mother and ask her to help me. She and my sister quickly came to help me. We looked everywhere in my room. In every corner, under every piece of clothing, in every container or box. Peatree was no where to be seen. I was panicking, crying, and totally frantic. My mom and sister were panicking as well. My dad, however, was trying to record us and being a huge jerk (jerk is too nice of a word to use). He was showing no compassion what so ever, and would not turn off the camera. My mother and I wanted him out of the room because all he was doing was making even more upset. My mom was trying to tell me that Peatree was dead. That there was no way that she could be alive and not at least calling for us. She thought that maybe the cat had gotten her, but I told her that the cat had not been out since I let Peatree out of her cage, and there was no way that Harper could have gotten her. I refused to believe that I would never see my gorgeous baby alive again. After about 20 minutes, there had still been no sign of Peatree, and my mom left my room to go look for her in the rest of the house. As soon as I was alone, I totally broke down. I was crying so hard, and I was so scared. As I tried to calm myself down so I could keep looking for her, I heard a sound. An amazing sound. Possible the best sound I have ever heard in my entire life. I heard the soft pitter patter of little feet coming from the shelf above my closet. I had never been so relieved in my entire life. My sister and mom helped knock the stuffed animals down from the shelf, and as soon as they were moved, my little Peatree came walking up to the ledge, all puffed up and happy. As soon as she was down, I was left alone, and I had never hugged that little bird so hard before. I was still crying, so very happy that I had found my gorgeous baby.

Peatree must have been flying, and she landed behind all the stuffed animals I had up on the ledge of the space above my closet. I don't think she could find away out from behind them. I had never been so scared as I was while I was looking for her. If I would have found her dead, I don't know what I would have done. I can't believe she didn't call to me when she got stuck, or when I was calling for her!

Peatree, you better NEVER do that do me EVER again. You have no idea how bad you scared me!!!! I love you so much!

Wow, what a terrible fright for you, Maddy :(. I'm so glad to know that Peatree is okay and that she was simply hiding for whatever reason. Please give her another hug and a scritch or two from me :)

Oh my goodness..what a scare!!! SO glad she is okay. Nothing worse than not being able to find your baby. Glad this had a happy ending. Bet you'll be hugging her all day long, and many treats for the special little birdie.

Thanks everyone! They sure know how to scare us, don't they?

I have lost Peatree before, but she was only lost for about 4 minutes before I found her outside my door. I also lost Jacob (RIP) when I first got him. I found him about 10 minutes later, in the laundry room. My experience with Peatree the other night was by far the scariest "loosing a bird" experience I've had!

About 18 months ago, I lost Codie for over an hour! I was going absolutely frantic :( I searched this house and he was nowhere to be found. I went back into the kitchen to start my search again when suddenly I heard him say 'hello'. I looked down and all I could see was a little green head poking out of my handbag which was on the floor. He has been rummaging about in there the whole time I was searching for him :th_LOL:

When Peta disappeared on me she had been playing on the top of her cage. I got busy doing something and forgot she was out. I went to check on her and she was not there. I called to her and she didn't answer like she always did before and I was terrified she may have flown to Roscoe's enclosure and was a has been. :( I kept her wings clipped for that reason, but they grew out fast and I thought I may have missed her ability to fly again. She was not anywhere around Roscoe, so I looked everywhere calling her name. She was not answering and I was frantically looking in & under everything! I guess it was a good 15 mins of looking everywhere that I called her again & said, "Peta!! Answer me!" She cheeped at me from the light that hangs over the kitchen sink that my house plants are under. She had been there the whole time snooping about. Her cage sat close to the area. I probably looked like an idiot to her hunting under things! LOL
