My friends has a pet cockatiel and her family just doesn't pay attention to him. The bird is her sisters, but she quickly lost interest in him. He doesn't have a name and they don't interact with him at all. I'm probably being paranoid, but is he being properly cared for? Here is a picture of him and his cage. Thank you! :th_biggrin:

Hi Cavies and welcome to the forum. Your friend's Cockatiel could use a much larger cage. Especially since they don't interact with him. All birds thrive on attention from their favorite person in their lives and they need a name to go by. And he needs toys to occupy his time so he isn't bored.

I do hope your friend and his sister are properly feeding this cutie. They need much more in way of nutrition than a bowl of seed and cup of water. He needs fresh veggies and a little fruit, plus various cooked beans and noodles for variety.

Take a look around our forum. There are lots of threads on proper care of Cockatiels and how to feed them. As well as proper caging and interaction. Maybe you can encourage your friend to come read about their care. If not please tell him and his sister what you have learned and help them to love their feathered darling with great care. :)

Hello Cavies and welcome to the forum.

I agree with De'Andrea in saying he needs a much larger cage. He also needs lots of toys to play with! As far as I can see, he only has one in the cage. Do you know what your friend is feeding him?

Perhaps you can educate them on the proper housing, care, socialization and nutrition. I would love to do something like that. You could even suggest these people become members of a bird forum.

I asked him what they feed him, and they said "just some food from the pet store". I will talk to him about it. Thank you so much!

Okay, so I talked to his sister about it yesterday, and I think I approached it the wrong way, because she got mad at me for accusing her of not taking care of her bird. He does have a name, and my friend didn't tell me that. His name is Bubbles, and I apologized for sounding like I was accusing her and she said it was fine. After that, she said that I could have him? I told her it was her bird and I didn't want to take him away from her, and she said she doesn't like him anymore anyways. I then said we'll see, because my friend has been wanting a pet bird. Then, out of no where, this morning she said that she talked to her family about it and I can get him today. I already told her my dad doesn't want anymore pets in the house and she hasn't replied. I also told her my friend might want a bird. Now I'm unsure of what to do. Any advise?

Maybe you could talk to your friend about it first to make sure they are in a position to care for Bubbles properly?
