So in looking for a friend for my little Mina I was talking to a friend who is a vet and they said be careful you can not mix old world and new world parrots. Also with Mina's dust if you get a bird with no dust it will have lots of problems. Well for that I will just buy a rabbit air filter or something comparable. Have you all heard of this. How about with your flocks are they mixed. I'm interested in a Quaker or a Catalina macaw or an eclectus male.

I've also been told the same thing, don't mix. Mine are all dusty cockatoos but I know, for a fact, that people have mixed continent birds and they do well, air purifiers are a must!

Yes I think I must get one ASAP. Both Mina and I just started sneezing. I'm a neat freak with her room but you can't get all that dust 😳.

I don't have any considered dusty parrots at the moment, but I will be getting a Rose Breasted Too later this summer when it is weaned. I have read about the dust and the problems it can cause non dusty birds. I already have 3 air filters that run constantly in my home. The first one I already had before the birds moved in to cut down on the Cedar pollen and normal dust living in farming country/flat land where the winds blow most of the year. The main one is a large Honeywell Hepa filter that is strictly dedicated to the birds and is kept in their area. The 3rd one is a small one I keep in my bedroom to catch any dust so I don't have to breathe it while sleeping.

My Rosie will be kept in a different area than my macaws and ekkie, so I don't for see a real problem. I plan on getting a larger air filter for the Rosie's area than the original one I have now.

Yes Mina gets a shower weekly and if she looks frazzled feather wise she gets a light spritz. Since I have been putting this golden flax on her food and giving her a little coconut oil ( organic ) of course. Her skin is beautiful. The only time I have a huge dust problem that I notice is when she is in a heavy molt like now. Thank you spring.
