We are not the proud parents of 2 Fire Bellied Toads! The kids just love them. Here are some pics:

Morgan and I got home late so Marcus didn't see the frogs until the next morning. He didn't leave the tank for 2 hours.

Oh my gosh Wendy, they sure were! Getting the toads were some what of a surprise for awhile. We had a fish tank with only feeder fish as they were the only things that would survive in our hard water. But I was tired of the feeder fish and they would die after a short while. So I decided to get something new and told the kids it was a surprise. They didn't guess what they were until about a day or two before we brought them home. They have totally loved watching them. I will try to get pics of their bellies which are fire red, hence the name. They have a really cool croaks. I have it on video, I will have to try to download it. Super easy to care for and since I don't have to fill the whole tank I used natural spring water to fill it. They've been a nice addition to our pet family. :th_biggrin:

They are cute! That is one of the very few critters I have never kept~~Frogs. I did raise tadpoles caught in water puddles and the tank in my Grandparent's pasture when I was young. Once they turned into frogs which were bull frogs, I let them go. :)

Thanks Ron! They really are fun little frogs to watch! I don't like snakes either, so don't feel bad! :th_wink:

This is my first time with frogs and so far, it's been fun having them. The do the sweetest little croak! :th_biggrin:
What a great addition, Blanca! You have their tank set up beautifully, lucky little frogs (toads?), I know there is a difference just not sure what it is!? What do you feed them? When my oldest son was around 13yrs. old, he brought home a "PacMan" frog or toad. It was the gnarliest creature I had ever seen! It's aquarium had gravel on the bottom and an area where he could submerge himself with just his eyeballs sticking out, this is where he mostly hung out. It had to be fed baby mice! That was the worse part of having him around. He was kind of flat, super ugly and grew to be almost as big around as a flattened orange! My son had him for a few years then found a good home for him, elsewhere.

I feed them crickets Mare. Thank goodness it isn't mice! I wouldn't enjoy that very well. Even though they call these guys toads they are technically frogs. They have bumps like toads and that is why they call them toads, but I guess they are not really toads after all. LOL! I don't know the difference really either, so don't feel bad. That frog/toad that your son had sounds interesting. But I think I will stick with these little guys. They don't get very big, they are cute with a bright orange belly and have a cute little croak. We've enjoyed them very much! :th_biggrin:
