Do any of you have any experience with Totally Organic Pellets? Pros? Cons? It was recommended to me to feed Lucy this as it doesn't have soy nor corn in it and those two things can cause her hormones to go haywire -- something that's happening on it's own. Anyway, she currently eats Zupreem fruity pellets which has soy and/or corn. She's been on Zupreem since at least 2008 (longer if I remember right) so she may be in need of a change. I don't know. I'm searching for anything that will help her with her hormones right now. We will be moving her cage tomorrow and changing things inside it also to see if that will help some. Anyway, I'm just looking for info on the TOPS.

Sorry Debra, I can't help you on this one. I am guilty of buying the usual brands like the fruity flavored ones and such. I have not tried any totally organic pellets for any of my flock. When I first got Leyla Belle I did buy the Pretty Bird's Species Specific pellets for Eclectus from the pet shop. They don't fall under organic and she did like them, I just didn't like the pet shop prices and never ordered them when I ordered the main bulk of pellets.

Hope this works for Lucy if you try it. Surely there are members who use organic pellets and can give you a good idea which one is the best. Do a search on Google too and see which brand most breeders and owners of female Eclectus recommend for Lucy's hormonal state of mind. That may give you some insight as to what to do to relieve some of it.

When I had my TAG I tried these pellets and she would not eat them. I think you can get a sample and see what her response is to them. Good luck and I am pulling for you.

I never thought about getting a sample. I will contact the company directly and see if they offer any. Thanks for the idea Dianne!

Debra the only thing I can tell you about an organic pellet is that it's safest to store it in the freezer. Because they have no chemical preservatives they grow some pretty nasty stuff quickly. My AV actually did a big study on foods and how they spoiled. I feed Harrison's and she gave me a pretty stern talking to on keeping it at room temp. She also said no refrigerator. It's to moist for parrot food. I don't know about TOPs, but I switched my finicky U2 from Zupreem fruity to Harrison's. Good luck getting Lucy switched over. Sorry if I covered something you knew already.

No, I didn't know any of that. Thanks for the advice. I think I will hold off for a little bit on the change. I will see if they have any samples I can try her on though.

There are quite a few sites that will send samples if you email them and ask :)
