Luca is perched trained now to come out of her cage. She is able to fly low only about 2 feet and the tail having only feathers on one side she flies almost sideways. It breaks my heart to see this. All flight feather were cut. Wish I could fast forward time to when she is in full feather. I need to get her a larger cage. Should I wait until she is navigating better?

I don't think it would hurt .You want her to really get used to whats going to be her home [I wouldn't wait]

I am with Terri on this one. I would get her new cage now so she gets used to it!

I'll hire that. Get her used to her new home. I'm so happy you are able to get her out of the cage without any problems now! She'll be a happier girl now.

I agree with everyone, too! It sounds like you are making great progress. Wouldn't it be nice if she did a molt and they all came in at once? :). In a perfect world...

Lady Luca is in a cage I found at Petsmarts today after work. It is called Cockatiel Habbitat. Got a deal on the price too. Too tired to take photos now. She was so cute when I put her on the cage entry. She looked at me and I could hear her saying "what's the matter with you I don't live in this house".

A[Users must be registered and logged in to view attached photos or hyperlinks] I bet she thinks she died and gone to heaven. I can't wait to see more of this little girl. I have a soft spot for the tiels.

Here is the new cage. It is a table top but still has enough room for one bird. She seems to love sitting on the platform perch.

Very nice Dianne :) Did Luca take to it straight away?

She did go inside the first time without much fuss. On occasion she will fly back to the original cage that Chipper and Daisy are in.
Thanks for asking.

I am glad she likes it :)

I know I'm late to this like every other thread I've posted in but I wanted to say I'm glad you didn't put her in a big cage without her flight ability. Riley is in a huge cage (you could fit 4 tiel in it and still have plenty of room) however had I realized just how difficult it was going to be for her to get around without her tail feathers I'd have gone out and bought a much smaller cage. Riley has fallen several times thankfully she's never hurt herself in those falls. That size cage is just fine though

I no longer have Luca. He is in a very good home. When I was admitted to the hospital in June I was very sick and had to make plans to have my birds and cats taken care of for the time being. It was not a good time for me. After coming home I realized I could no longer handle 3 birds. He was such a good little guy and learned quickly.

I am sorry to hear that
