I get to our middle school (we have 5 campuses) and pick up my kids. As I'm pulling out, one girl came up and said she had to get off. I told her I'd already left the school so she could not get off. She went back to her seat. Then she came back up and said her father was following the bus and that she needed to get off. I told her to tell him to call the bus barn and inform the secretary who would then relay the message to me and instruct me as to where to leave the child. Safety first -- especially because I didn't know what her dad looked like. It could have been an older boyfriend, uncle, etc. On my way to the next school, my secretary starts calling another bus trying to find a child. I barely listen since it didn't involve me. As I was leaving that school, a man was trying to flag me down. Uh, I don't think I'm going to stop for a stranger who is flagging me down when I have a bus full of children. I continue on. Finally the secretary gets an address of the child and figures out that it is the child on my bus and calls me. I told her yes the child was on my bus.
She informed me that the principal of the girls school had given the wrong bus number to the parents and thats where the confusion had come from. She then said to let the child off at my final school. I did as I was told. The father was infuriated by this time so he came up and said "If this happens again you'll have to answer to me!" I was dumbfounded! Here I was protecting his child from the unknown and he's threatening me! I thought I was going to have to call the cops on him. My kids, however, loved the excitement and thought it was funny that I got yelled at. They even asked me if I was scared because of what the man said. I told them that no I wasn't afraid because I had the law on my side. That quietened them. lol

Ugh! Some people just don't have a clue and get upset if they have to go out of the way to raise their children.

Thank you ladies. My office said I handled it quite well. My quandry is that I live on my route so this man doesn't live that far from me. Hopefully he won't discover where I live. If he does, I'll sick Frankie on him. lol

You really did handle it well. I wish you were our driver!!

About a year ago, our driver let an enraged man on the bus at a stop light. (The middle school kids did something to anger him). He got out of his car, banged on the door and she let him in. He then went to the back of the bus screaming, swearing, gesturing and threatening some of the boys. He finally left, but it was insane. Kids were texting their parents bc they were scared while it was going on. Needless to say, she was let go.

If the man ever approaches you I would just calmly explain why you didn't allow interaction. Remind him of crazies who go and shoot up schools or pedofiles who abduct kids. Then ask him if he would like you to let a stranger on the bus next time. Better to be safe and keep the kids safe. He just needs to think about it when he's not mad. I'm sure he will realize you did the right thing.

I know I'm a bit late on this thread but if that man had said that to me and I was thinking in my sharp mode after I recovered from the shock, this is what I would have said, "If this happens again I will do the same thing as today." "And you will have to answer to the police to explain why you are stalking a bus full of underage children!"

People don't always look at the big picture and see how the situation looks from the other side of things. He should be grateful you didn't let her off. You did the right thing in my book! ;)

My boss was glad I handled it as well as I did. I have a camera that faces the door. The whole time he was yelling at me I was leaning back making certain his face and voice could be well taped.
