I thought this would be a lot of fun!

I'm sure our birds all do interesting things every single day, without fail :th_biggrin: so lets share a story about what one of your birds did, or some of them, or all of them! Feel free to write as much as you want :)

So far today, Codie has dunked all his wooden bricks in his water bowl and thrown them across the room :th_hehe: told me to "shut up" while I was talking on the phone and found great delight in swinging upside down from my curtain swags :th_shocking:

Demon bite me on the chin when I tried to take a bit of my lunch. ( I guess he was under the impression it was ALL his). Spirit is busy tearing up the toy I just made him. Paris is hanging upside down screaming at her toy for who knows what and Boomer is muttering. I am sure its about landing in a nut house!

I left Rosie for a good chunk of the day today. The weather has finally let up and I had errands and a friend to meet for lunch.

Before I went out we showered. She was air drying for a bit in the shower & rocking out to VERY LOUD music when Ashie's teacher called. Unfortunately I answered on my corded desk phone. So I had to explain that the bird was listening to music and I had to put the phone down to go turn down the music so I could hear. Which turned into a whole discussion all while Rosie was serenading us loudly.

Then she had a blow dry session and I put her in her cage to chill while I went out.

When I got home I was rewarded with a hard chomp on my finger. This was bc I wanted to take her right out and not let her throw a tantrum on top of her cage. Then while I was on the phone with the insurance guy about my rings she was yelling...APPLE? Peekaboo! Hello and a garbled version of Cashew. I am sure he was happy to hang up with the crazy woman with a looney zoo on the other end. :) My boss is now snacking and waiting patiently for me to "cuddle". I'm waiting though bc she may still be annoyed about being denied screaming and flapping on top of her cage. One bleeding finger is enough for me today. Sigh....

Haha, I don't blame you for waiting a while Kendra! Getting bitten by Codie is bad enough! I can't imagine what it is like to be bitten by that big beak :eeeek:

kendrafitz

It actually usually isn't bad. But she was in a snit bc I was gone for a while. Top that with me prying her feet off the cage while she was furiously trying to get to the top. She just went nutty and got too rough while trying to get me to back down.

My fault for not fearing her beak probably. I didn't even notice until minutes later. My hands are so dry and cracked from the cold which makes the skin break easier. No amount of lotion is working this year. :(

Frankie and Amber just did their typical, no-nonsense day. A little muttering, a little playing, a little eating. Lucy had a quiet day......until she was allowed to come out of her cage this evening. She ran under the buffet and started guarding it like a wet mother hen. I made the mistake of walking by it while she was in beast mode. I now am sporting a nice oozing bruise/sore on my big toe.

Their are certain birds I can leave on top of their cages [and will stay there ] or so I thought. While we eat dinner. Belly my Ls2 is one of them and she can see us in the door way and we interact with her. Marley [my Eclectus ]has a huge crush on her . To my surprise [and I about fell out of my chair ] was Marley next to Belly. Quite the contrast you know [the white and green :)] He came clear across the room to see her :) . Wendy so funny today with Codie :)

Disco [my greencheek ] climbed innocently climbed on Harlows [my Macaw] cage to visit her] . Hes so little he makes me nervous. So far Rosie woke up, had breakfast and showered. She is now having her blow dry session while I work (and check PP). :) Oh, and she informed me it was time for a preening session after the kids left. Not too much playing today yet. I think she may be bored with her toys and I need to switch them out. Quiet day...except for her screaming.

I was out a bit this weekend so she is not having it if I even attempt to leave the room she is in. Lots of screaming when she can't see me or if I am on the phone. Basically, she has decided I need to make it up to her and it is a "Rosie" day, no one else can have my attention. Sigh... Even though she is making me nutty today, she did say "I love you" and "good girl" in the shower, so all is forgiven. It doesn't take much for her to win me over. ;)

The Sassy Girl has to be watched every second when she is out, she is QUICK! My husbands been away for about 10 days, now. Sassy and I get along well when he isn't here. There is no way to just let her have a full day, out of her cage, on a play gym, no way. She is a chewer, like Amigo, and is non-stop, the whole time. She first flys to the table where I have the mail set. I give her the junk to shred. Then onto the kitchen counter, she loves to throw what ever she can carry, over the edge. Then she heads over to the lazy Susan that holds the vitamins, OMG, come on Sassy, please, can we just sit down and visit?! I swear, she fits hours of visiting into 20mins.!

Amigo had a full day outside. He was a busy guy chasing the woodpeckers off of his tree. I wish he would chase them from the side of the garage wall! My husband hung some stuffed animals from the garage rafters to deter the woodpeckers, it's helped some but they still try. It was a beautiful day today and I was outdoors quite a bit. Amigo got a shower with the hose and then he visited some of his favorite trees around the property, clearing out holes. When the sun was going down he got very vocal, I think he is shooing away anything that thinks it might want to come close! Good day in the neighborhood. :)

Codie woke up in a bad mood this morning and made no bones in letting me know to steer clear! He then went on to stand in his food bowl and flick all his food onto the floor :( Toys were taken out of his bowl and hurled on the floor! He is absolutely fine now though! He got out of the wrong side of the bed. lol.

Rosie had a Mommy day today. She hung out, snacked and played while I worked. We also preened and showered which was very loud as Rosie decided to work on perfecting some God awful yell while singing.

My husband took a large mirror down in my living room to put up a tv. We haven't decided where to hang it yet so it is standing against the wall in the dining room, aka Rosie's room. Tonight before bed we went to say hello to the birdy in the mirror. Rosie did the usual, kissing me while looking at the birdy and saying hello. I asked if she wanted to kiss the birdy in the mirror and she kissed her reflection several times and leaned her forehead against it. It was just so sweet, sometimes that devilish girl melts my heart.

Oh My those stories are just too good to stay here on the forum. we need to find someone to put them in a book called "Memoirs From The Crazy People On That~~Forum" :)

Yesterday I managed to make Roscoe and Ruby Jewel mad at me. Someone, I'm not naming names here (Wendy) thought it would be cute to get our birds to hold up a shaming sign. And me, gullible to try almost anything at least once, gave it a good try. Boy was Roscoe PO'd at me for yanking & wrestling the paper out of his beak. Geeez, you'd thought I'd taken his last meal of his life away!! 5 paper signs, 2 for Roscoe to take his aggression out on, a floor that looked like a paper factory blew up & a hand full of pistachios later I got a few decent photos for the Shaming thread. :th_faint:

Ruby Jewel got mad at me cause I was trying to take a few photos of her feet for a thread that same someone (Wendy) thought would be cute to post photos of. I was holding her in one hand, holding my full size camera (yeah the expensive one) in the other hand, twist her around and myself to see her feet in the monitor and prying her beak off said expensive camera. She was not impressed with her foot modeling and let me know with a few nips at my hand~~and the camera again!! :th_eek: The foot modeling photos are still pending further abuse from huge birds with equally huge beaks! Sheesh Wendy! You got any safe thread ideas I can submit photos on? :th_pinklol2:

Angel fell in his enclosure and broke the tip off his beak sometime early in the morning before I got up and went to get their bowls out. I noticed he was not acting his usual self and was letting me scratch his neck without any silly acting like normal. I then saw it was his beak, but it hadn't bled hardly any and was fine by then. It was tender and he waited til afternoon to go eat his breakfast. By evening he was back to his silly self when I went in to his enclosure to scratch him. His beak wasn't long enough to be of too much danger in breaking this time, so no need to go to the vet like the first time it happened almost two yrs ago.

The rest of the flock was going about their business like normal, no funny or off the wall antics~~Yet!!:th_hehe:

Well, yesterday was Lucy's day. She spent it very quietly. At one point, we noticed she was being too quiet so my hubby started looking for her. He looked everywhere! Even found a few spots that she had so nicely remodeled. Finally, he was so frustrated he wanted me to take off my shoes and walk around to see where she'd come running from to get to my feet. Then, as he was walking by her cage, he noticed her standing primly on top of her cage. All innocent. She had been watching him looking all over for her. I'm sure she was laughing to herself. Then, when we got home, we had brought in a pizza. We let her out of her cage and instead of going to her usual spot, she went directly for the couch where Jerry was eating his pizza. The cat had cornered me with mine. Trying to eat pizza and shoo off an animal is not fun. Lucy eventually talked Jerry into sharing the crusts. lol

Nothing really exciting has been going on with my flock. Usual noise and antic. I have been trying to teach Sierra my white capped pionus to say, "Ewok go night night." When I cover her for bed. She sounds like a little Ewok when she talks and I already have her saying Ewok in a really high pitched voice when I say it to her. It is adorable cause it is long E then raise your voice about 5 octaves while saying wok and that's how she & I sound conversing together. LOL Sierra is doing great with talking already saying "I love you" and "Gimme kiss" but it is a garbled gravely sound. Not as clear as the macaws are.

Oh yeah, I do have a funny to tell about Sir Roscoe. He is always trying to thread the ends of his ropes in the chain links of destroyed toy hangers. He's almost gotten one small rope end through but it fell out before he could grab the other end. So the other day while I was in Abilene shopping I bought the kids some new toys. The macaw toys have a red hard plastic ring held onto the chain by a metal ring at the bottom. That is to keep the wooden parts from falling off of course. So yesterday afternoon when I get up for work I see Roscoe standing on the new toy. I looked closer and he had managed to thread the metal ring onto the neighboring chain of another toy and formed himself a wooden toy swing! What these winged kids can't think up!! :)

Way to go Roscoe!

My flock is the same old, same old day in and day out stuff going on. Lucy, however, is so much happier with her cage now that she's got paper on the bottom to tear up and tunnel under. We've even started stuffing newspaper with almonds in it into toilet paper rolls. Once she discovered the almonds those don't last very long. She's not only digging the newspaper out of the rolls, but she's destroying the rolls as well. Each evening my hubby shakes his head at the paper mess on the floor under her cage. I just look at him and say "she's finally happy. What's a little mess when it makes an unhappy bird, happy?" He agrees and cleans up the mess.

Sassy pierced my ear today, yep, I think I could put an earring through it if I tried. It's the top of my ear and she went right through the cartilage! I'm trying not to cry :(. It hurts my feelings as much as it hurts my ear :(

Zoe, Black Headed Caique, took a bath today. She took a bath in her water dish. When she dried sufficiently, she took a bath. She took a bath in Lucifer's water dish. When the last feather was preened she took a bath...in Lola's water dish. Lola's beak has been out of joint ever since. Zoe then proceeded to take a bath in Crush's water dish and was hopping her way to Brodie's (Terrier) water dish when Dad decided it was time to spoil the fun.

I say Ouch too Mare! I can imagine it very painful. :( I can still remember when my Mom first pierced my ears at the tender age of 9 with a sewing needle and used sewing thread for the loop. That was super painful when she poured alcohol on it and yanked the thread around twice a day. So I can certainly sympathize with you on both hurts.

SSassy, you should treat Mom better than that. I bet if not for her you would have a way different life with someone not so loving.

Mare

To DAYYY..Amigo flew into a stand/brush of poison oak :( I'm freaking out, calling to him, he's totally ignoring me, chopping down limbs, getting smothered in the shiny leaves and my heart is sinking with every second. Not only is poison oak suppose to be toxic to parrots, I'm highly allergic to it. The list of poisonous plants, for parrots, places western and eastern poison oak on the toxic list. I need to tell you, that before I knew how to use internet or knew of bird forums,,this bird was diving into poison oak on our property. It is NOT toxic, to him. He finally came in for a shower with the hose, which he loves, but without soap and a scrub/rinse,,it's going to be a looong..freakin' summer :(

Today Scarlet decided to stretch her wings and fly around the house. This would have been great fun and fantastic exercise if she weren't completely blind. We do keep her flighted in case she falls off her stand, and she's never shown any inclination to use her wings other than to start the "poo dance". Can't figure out what startled her, since she is also deaf as a rock...:23_11_52:

Mare
04-14-2014, 12:32 AM
George, did Scarlet crash into stuff? Is she ok?

Turquoise
04-14-2014, 07:59 AM
George, maybe she was just simply flying because she wanted to like a great majestic macaw is supposed to! :) Just because she is deaf and blind doesn't mean she thinks she can't do all the things a normal sighted hearing macaw can. Unless she was frantically flying and obviously scared, she may just be so comfortable in your home with the love & good care you are giving her that she wanted to explore her world.

These 'Special' birds are fearless and do not think they are any different than their normal counterparts. I see that in Angel and what he can do and tries to do like his brother Roscoe. He clearly does not think he is handicapped except when he lands on the floor without anything to grasp and climb. Then he knows he is vulnerable and finds a way to get off the floor in way of flapping furiously to move to something to climb on.

The Sassy girl has been exceptionally so, as of late. Her time out of her cage, with Tim (husband) is usually in the living room area and she is now being territorial of this whole space, no one but Tim, is allowed to share this space :numbness:

Ok, today I had to try and put some new rules into place and was sad to even have to suggest it. We have a guest room, next to the bird room, very comfortable place and I suggested to Tim that maybe he could take his IPad in there, while holding/playing with Sassy, and enjoy his time with her, there! "No problem!", he says! Tim actually enjoyed his time there with her, more than in the living room, he said she was very mellow and easy to be around. GEEZ! BIRDS!

I don't know if this is an emotionally healthy way to be with birds but I do know she is much more content when there are no other factors to attract her man's attention!

She hasn't done this for a couple of days, but Lucy has taken to pooping on my hubby when he spends time with her. I think this is her way of saying she's unhappy about being locked in her cage and no longer able to roam the house at will. She only gets about 30 to 45 minutes of daddy time 2 to 3 times a day because she won't behave for longer than that. lol

Well, I spent most of my off days this week finally getting the macaw boys enclosures moved into my old bedroom. I love them in there and amazingly Angel settled in to his new abode quite well. Roscoe not so much, the brat was like super unhappy for the first 3 days and is now finally playing with his toys again. He hasn't been coming out on his play perch much since spring hormones kicked in, but since the move he comes out every morning just so he can sit in his old home spot. LOL See right now til Jerry gets the breaker box, electrical wires and 2X4 studs out from the wall between the living room and their new cage area, Roscoe ' s play perch is sitting in the spot their enclosures were at on the living room side. The wall is all open, I took the covering off and when it is all cleared and totally open I will start putting the boy's portable play perches in front of their enclosures so they can come & go in & out while I'm home watching them.

Sierra my pionus has been a little meanie lately. She is a hard headed little rascal and doesn't like to stay on her play perch when she feels like leaving. When I pick her up to hold or to & from the cage she flies off which is to the floor since her wings are clipped. So I hold her toes to control her & the Ewok bites my fingers!! That darn Ewok can bite hard for a little stink!! She is a mini Zon for sure. LOL She can get violently mad at her toys in a hurry if one bounces back at her or doesn't cooperate like she thinks it should. :)

Rosie was very interested in going over the names of all of our family that live in our house. The first few times she was so excited and looking around for each person/dog. But then she decided that she would join in. She still doesn't say Mommy. However, just like most kids, she started to try saying Daddy several times. She also tried Ashie. Kills me that she would say Daddy before me!! But maybe she figures that is a good way to win the big goofy guy over. ;)

Sassy pierced my ear today, yep, I think I could put an earring through it if I tried. It's the top of my ear and she went right through the cartilage! I'm trying not to cry :(. It hurts my feelings as much as it hurts my ear :(

We were doing good then all of a sudden she started getting wound up, flying back and forth to her cage then me. I know this is when she needs to be put in lock down but I wasn't quick enough :eeeek:

I'm cracking up right now. Lilliputs is standing in her water bowl. Just standing there, both feet in and eating a piece of banana. I guess she's giving herself the spa treatment with a foot soak.

Apparently today is the day for the game of let's see who can make the most noise. The funny part is rain who is usually the most quite is the one winning today. Lol.

Rain is actually starting to talk!!!! She's trying to say.. Whatcha doing.. I say that to her all the time.. I'm so excited to see and hear it.. I don't think more or less of a bird because they talk.. But I never thought my baby girl would talk..

But I thought Starburst would...

Odd... But I'm still happy for her..
