Out of my 4, only Maynard is right-footed.
Sassy and Amigo are lefties.

Roscoe is decidedly left footed. Angel doesn't exactly count since his best foot for holding things is his left (meaning the one he has the best control with while leaning across his perches to hold a nut. And he can do a very good job of holding his own nuts). Given he is Roscoe's brother I would expect him to be a leftie as well.
Ruby Jewel uses whichever one she feels like. I haven't seen a definite pattern of one over the other. So she is ambidextrous for the most part. When she first came home she did used her right foot more.
Leyla Belle rarely holds anything with her feet and I can't really remember which she prefers since it is rare. Sierra uses her left and Peta does too. I guess Ruby Jewel is my only different one, poor confused girl. She has to be different. :th_hehe:

Out of my 12, only two hold food in their foot and one of those two can't do it very well -- it takes several tries to get her foot up enough to grasp it so she usually just uses her bowl. Frankie, on the other hand, has to hold everything he eats in his left foot. It's funny to see him try to pick up birdie bread in his foot when it sometimes crumbles. lol

The smaller guys just aren't as inclined to grasp food with their feet. I've always felt it was due to the fact that the food items they eat are generally smaller. Bite-size pieces of food don't require much holding time ;)
I guess Maynard is the only right-foot here so far!

I never really noticed, so I watched her today. She used her left foot to hold food. But she doesn't hold her food all that often, she prefers to just throw her food around the room. I sometimes wonder if she actually consumes anything.
But when she wants to be picked up she uses her right. :)

Now that I think of it, Lucy (who doesn't use her foot to eat) steps up with her right foot. She will sometimes start with her left foot then put it down and step up with her right one. Maybe she's right footed?

I watched a blue jay at the feeder today and he picked up a peanut in shell and flew to the tree where he tried to eat it shell and all but it fell. I am thinking they do not use their feet for food.

Tonight when Rosie wanted to go to bed she lifted her left foot out for me. So I am guessing she is ambidextrous. ;)
I've always wondered why some parrots use their feet to hold their food to eat, while others don't. My cockatoos pick up food with and eat with their feet and step up with the left foot. Cockatiels don't do that. OMG!! I may have just answered a question I had asked awhile back, about why are my birds feet so large!!? Seriously! They must use their feet as hands!

My cockatoos pick up food with and eat with their feet and step up with the left foot. That's exactly what Salsa does. I've already explained how he reaches for and grabs food that I hand to him with his foot (not his beak). But he also uses his foot instead of his beak to pick up the pieces of food in his bowls (be they pellets, fruit/veggie chunks, or even squishy stuff like a clump of cooked oatmeal). My other 3 exclusively use their beaks to pick up food to eat from their bowls and then bring a foot up with which to grasp and hold it.

I heard that most parrots are left footed. That's true.. most are. That's why I wanted to see how many right-footers were out there. Only one out of the four of mine is right-footed.

The strange thing is, Codie eats with his left foot, but steps up with his right :)
