Alex talks and talks and talks.
He loved the firework at the 31st. of December, so since then he often says things like "Poef, poef, paf, boem, poef" etc..
He also likes to give kisses. Talking about poop is also interesting. Alex also talks about all kinds of fruit again a.o. lychee, abrico, apple.
He calls my Chihuahua Vicky and speaks to my Umbrella Cockatoo Maxi.
He also tells me to do groceries (in Dutch: Boodschappen doen). And he imitates the waterspray-bottle.
Alex is for sure is enjoying himself.

I hope you all will enjoy watching this video and hearing Alex speak Dutch, giving kisses, imitating fireworks etc........

Greetings from the Netherlands,
Rita

Thanks Wendy.
I told Alex about the firework at the morning of December the 31st. 2013.
Kids were playing with fireworks for several days already, so those shot-sounds were heard regularely.
I thought I needed to explain that to Alex by telling him: "Alex, that is firework. Poef, paf boem".
In the evening he already started with his own "Poef, paf, boem"-firework-sounds. He was so exited by the firework and loves to imitate it, as you can se at this video.
I hear him imitate firework every day now since the 31st. of December 2013.

Rita

Wow! You should be proud of him, what a TALKER! I also love seeing your videos, thanks for sharing them! :). Does Alex and Maxi get along? As in, can they be loose in the same room together?

Hello Mare,

Yes, I am very proud at Alex and his fantastic speaking-skills.
He can be a rascal, but he does care for me a lot and has bonded with me very well. Alex is fantastic!
Maxi is a very gentle sweet Umbrella-Cockatoo girl. She loves to preen Alex's feathers.
Alex does not Always allow her to do that so Maxi Always approaches him carefully then and says "Lekker hè" (Nice huh) to Alex,
to see in which mood he is.
When Alex allows her to preen his feathers he really enjoys her tender care. Often Alex closes his eyes of pure enjoyment when he's preened by Maxi.
Maxi is just 5 days older the Alex and I got them at the same day at a young age. Maxi was just 7 weeks and Alex 6 weeks. So they grew up together!
They share one cage. There wings are not clipped, so when they have out of the cage time they like to fly through my livingroom first.
Then they start to play with the toys hanging from the ceiling etc.. And then they come and sit with me at the couch.
Often at my shoulders too. They love to be near me.
Alex and Maxi beheave as a couple.
Maxi is slower with eating fruits and nuts, so when Alex has finnished eating his fruit or nut, he often steals what Maxi was eating.
But often then Maxi starts to beg Alex for food and Alex really feeds her food from his crop then.
For him it means that Maxi accepts his dominant position, which Alex enjoys. He's a macho!
When I just had joined Precisely Parrots I made a thread in which I also put the so called "In Love"-photovideo of Alex & Maxi,
made of 100 photo's of them as a couple.
Here is that photovideo again Mare:

Extra information about this photo-video:
My Umbrella Cockatoo Maxi (hatched on the 9th. of July 2009) & my African Grey parrot Alex (hatched on the 14th. of July 2009) are together since they were very young. Usually they get along very well together, even though they sometimes have their quarrels. Anyhow, they exhibit partner behavior. Maxi is a female and she always likes to preen the feathers of Alex. He does not always allow Maxi to preen his feathers, but when he does then Alex really enjoys Maxi's careful treatment of his feathers. Maxi regularly wants to be fed by Alex and Alex enjoys doing that because that gives him a dominant position compared to her. So often Alex responds at Maxi's request and feeds her regurgitated food from his crop. The photo-series for this video consists of 100 photographs, made between the 1st. of February 2010 and the 5th. of August 2012).

Maybe I should make a new thread with this photo-video again, because it wouldn't surprise me if many other PP-members
have missed it back then that would enjoy seeing it.

Rita
