I thought I would start a thread of the funny things our birds say [feel free to share] . It sounds like a mental ward here:th_LOL:with the random words, phrases and laughing. Last week was giving out the birds afternoon snack with my daughter [mixed beans and pasta] Rocky, our Blue and Gold said " I want a cracker not a noodle" . Julia and I looked at each other not believing he said that then he replied "that's ok ":th_hehe: Dave was visiting the Macaws [My GW and BLUE and Gold they share a cage.] Rocky was saying about Ruby "I love her " ,"Shes my Girl":th_LOL:

I have been a bit down today and Codie must have picked up on it. He was in the middle of eating a chicken bone and all of a sudden he said so plainly, "Whats the matter" I have to say, it did cheer me up :)

When Jester wants to come out of his cage, he yells "Rikki, PICK ME UP!" along with what sounds like a few not so nice things. :th_hehe: Apparently, one of Jester's previous owners was named Rikki.
Amigo is not a big talker, Sassy has a very hardy, contagious laugh that gets you laughing along with her :). She also has a way of screaming like a little girl, when Amigo comes to the outside window wanting in!

Rosie doesn't have a lot of clear words yet. We have a lot of hello, peek a boo and apple. Which she sings happily as the words to any song she enjoys. :)
Yesterday she was being really ornery. When I was taking her from the shower to her perch she pinched my neck, hard. I told her that she needed to be nice and that she hurt Mommy. She cocked her head, put her face near mine and said "Good girl?". First time she said it. I informed her she was definitely not being a good girl. Little stinker.

Oh I love this thread!! All of your birds are classic!! :loveit:
My flock is the typical noisy full of themselves group you would expect living with a nut like me. Roscoe is my biggest talker in the macaw circle. I can walk up to the enclosure and he looks right at me and exclaims in a 'matter of fact' tone "What!" I tell him he doesn't have to be so sarcastic and I usually get a "Dammit!" from him. LOL I must admit he picked that up from me & now I tell him, "Potty Mouth" when he says that. :th_pinklol2: His next most favorite is to say "Stop that", "Roscoe quit it", you can tell by his vocabulary he is in trouble a lot!! When the dogs start barking I tell them to shut up and he yells, "UP!" He never says the shut part.
Angel can talk just as well, but saves it for when he feels like it. His most endearing thing is when I come in of a morning from work and he is hanging from his enclosure top wire by only his beak and repeating over & over as he flaps his wings, "Hello" "Hello" "Hello" It is so welcoming to come home to that sound. :th_heart: he used to scare me when he would hang just by his beak. I was so afraid he would fall & hurt himself since he has the disabilities, but he is a pro at everything now and is not limited by anything but the ability to stand up, walk the perch and fly. :th_hug8:
My Ruby Jewel is fast learning to talk. She can say her name "Ruby Jewel" really well and "I love you". Those are her favorites for now. She still does a lot of mumbling and has recently picked up saying "What" from guess who~~Sir Big Mouth~~Roscoe C. Macaw!! :th_LOL:
Miss Diva Leyla Belle is my phrase talker. She can say "Well Howdy there Mawlene" This I taught her to say when my friend Marlene was supposed to come down last Oct. She wasn't able to come and I have tried & tried to get it on video. The little stink develops lockjaw when I get it out. Even in the dark and she is covered!! She also can say part of another phrase I have been working on with her. She gets this much so far, "Well bless your heart I do declare, my name is..." This is the whole phrase she hasn't quite gotten down, "Well bless your heart I do declare, my name is Miss Leyla Belle La Ru Longhorn and don't you forget it!" This ekkie girl is something else with her memory and talking.
Peta doesn't talk plain enough for me to get much out of her jabber. Sierra is trying to make words, soon I think she will get one or two figured out. The budgies don't talk. My first one of these, Spirit did say a few words when it was just him & Shadow, but after the rest came to live with them he quit talking. :(

I'm not sure just how good ekkies are at talking or if Leyla Belle is a super bright genius. I like to think she is a genius of course. What proud Mom doesn't think her kid is the top of her class! LOL Leyla Belle is my first female ekkie and I have been so pleased at her accomplishments in talking. When I talk to her to get her to learn something, she leans in a bit listening and turns one eye toward me. I can tell she is computing everything I have just said to her. It's amazing how different the macaws are when listening compared to when Leyla Belle is.
I did have a male ekkie years ago with my first group of parrots. Kakura could talk, but he never achieved the abilities Leyla Belle does. He was a 7 month old baby when I got him and was a sweet boy, but he never listened as intently to me as The Diva does.
Kendra, if only I could get a video of the Miss Leyla Belle talking! :( She shuts up as soon as I get it out even if I hide behind something or she is covered at night. Our birds are just too smart for their little feathered birdie britches. :th_LOL:

Chipper starts talking when he wakes up and only stops when napping or eating. He only needs to hear me say something the first or second time and then he starts with that word or phrase. Example I began giving him a small cup of water and saying "drink your water" a few times and then he got it!

Lucy will only say "Pretty Girl" (her former name) when my hubby is rubbing the back of her neck while she's relaxing. Little Amber says "good girl" although not plainly. It's funny when she tries to bite my hubby then says "good girl". I just laugh and tell her she IS a good girl. I know I shouldn't encourage her, but if he can have a bird that bites me, I can have a bird that bites him. lol. Frankie, on the other hand, talks all the time. He hasn't picked up anything new lately, but he definitely can get his point across. He even says "thank you" when you give him something. He will say "bless you" when you so much as touch your nose. Of course, along with the bless you there's also the sneeze he does. Since I've had the bronchitis, he has started in with both the sneezing and coughing. I tell ya I get no respect in this house! lol

Words of the Day !!! I My ten year old Elise [was getting in a little bit of trouble] . I told her we needed to talk . She said "Im not Talking!!" Marley my new Ekkie started repeating the word Talk,Talk . Of course both of us cracked up :) . Tonight we were singing and dancing with the Macaws [we try everything here :) ] Rocky[my Blue and Gold] was on top of his playstand on top of his cage . I was trying to get him with a perch . He proceeded to go farther away from me . He said to Dave "She cant get me back here" [hehe] .We got him back in his cage .He said "Get out of here" :). Dave came back bringing mashed potatoes for him. He was trying to open his food dish door . Rocky was messy with him lunging at the door then yelled "Cut it out" . After he gave him food in his dish he said "shut the door" I guess he told us :)

It's clear to see that all of our birds are very smart clowns with their funny sayings and perfect timing! :) They each have their unique way to get their point across.
I forgot to mention Roscoe picked up something I say a lot while I'm getting their food ready and I keep hearing screams like them telling me to hurry up. I tell them, "I'm workin' on it!" So Mister Smart Butt Roscoe C. Macaw decides to say it, but he repeats it 3 times. "I'm workin' on it~I'm workin' on it~I'm workin' on it" really quick together and I keep telling him I never said it that way. Angel can say it too, but he just says it one time like I do. Sooo, now I am trying to teach them a little twist on it with, "Give her a break. She's workin' on it!" Mister Smart Butt listens to me, but so far just says the 3 repeat. If I didn't want him to say it he would be on it like stink on a bug!!:th_hehe:
Terri I have a smartphone and i sat at my dining table one day with it to try to catch some bird, any bird talking since not more than a minute before all of them were full of conversation and the rotten rascals still shut up. I sat there for a little while and would hear a word or two and each time all I got for my efforts was a lot of evil eyed stares. And this from a flock who loves to ham it up in front of the camera! :th_pinklol2:

We look at him in disbelief at what he says [ive only had him from September] . I think he talks so well because he was so desperate fore attention being in the basement . Most my birds say things [but not like this]. I wasn't going to put this but I guess I will . As Ruby was thanking him for preening her. Rocky said "It feels good back here" Funny but crude

Hello Terri,
I loved to read what Rocky said. It's soooooo amazing. They are so smart. Thanks for sharing!
Early in the morning of the 24th. of January I had the vet put my 13 1/2 tortoiseshell cat Trijntje to sleep. She was terminally ill with a tumor in her nosebridge and had trouble breathing.
In the evening my CAG Alex who used to talk about Trijntje a lot when she was alive especially during the last weeks, sad all of a sudden "Poesje Trijntje kopen".
As if Trijntje was gone long enough and he missed her and it was time for me to buy Trijntje back so she could come home.
Alex never had sad that senrence before, but he repeated it several times during the next days.
Alex also says "Ga maar lekker boodschappen doen" (go and buy groceries) and often he adds what I should buy. He can say so many fruit-names and other foods and drinks. It's amazing.
Greetings from the Netherlands,
Rita

Hello Terri,
What a sweet reply of Rocky at Dave's singing!

Hello De'Andrea,
As others I would like to see a video of your Eckie Leyla Belle talking too.
My advice to you is: Use a trypod! They are not that expensive.
Put your camera at the tripod at put that near to the cage of Leyla Belle, so she can see it constantly.
Let the tripod with camera stand for several days and she will have gotten used to it.
Then she probably won't even notice when you turn your camera on and start shooting a movie while she's talking!
Good luck! I look forward to see the result!
Greetings from the Netherlands,
Rita
Oh my god. What a fantastic responses of Rocky but also of Max. I love it Terri!

Yes Terri,
They know exactly what's going on and reply to that.
I've experienced that too.
The morning of the 24th. of Jsnuary 2014 I had my cat Trijntje been put to sleep by the vet.
Alex talked a lot about Trijntje when she was alive, especially the last weeks of her life when she was not doing well at all.
The evening of the 24th. of January 2014 Alex all of a sudden said: "Poesje Trijntje kopen", a totally new sentence he had never said before.
It means: "buy pussy Trijntje" as if he had missed her long enough now and I should buy Trijntje back.
It's also amazing that your Grey Max said Jennifer's name for the first time ever at the day she had passed away.
I'm sorry for your loss.
I have another question for you. You wrote that Rocky started his life at a basement???
As a rather new member of PP I have missed this story and am rather curious about it. I guess it will be heartbreaking though.
Can you send me Rocky's story please?
Greetings from the Netherlands,

Wendy, Codie must be the Amazon version of Johnny Depp in his pirate movies. :th_hehe: Maybe he sneaks out of his cage & watches tv when your not home and pirate movies with the parrot on the shoulder is his favorite. :)
Rita, my birds are not afraid of my camera. They are hams when it comes to getting photos of them. It is when I use it to try to video them talking that they go silent and I have even tried in the dark when Leyla Belle is talking covered up. She just knows that video is on. I have even tried with my phone and hiding from her sight and in the dark with it. The darn bird is physic and just knows I want to tape her talking and Diva that she is just will not be videoed unless I get explicit permission from her agent!!

My rehomed Luci sneezes several times and then laughs! Luci does this several times back to back, and very loud. She is imitating previous owner Jan, who is in denial but her husband threw her under the bus! It sounds like a man sneezing which makes it even funnier! Luci is a Palm Cockatoo and when she starts you can't help but crack up. She now says hello Poe and oh Poe bird, hello, hello, hello, hello. Jan said she never has said a word but she is definitely talking now, she will be 15 in April. As we've said in the past, Josie loves to argue with Ben so the other day when she was telling him off about something she ended with 'butt munch'. Ben will call the dog that to get the kids laughing and apparently Josie was going for the laugh as well.
Also, I have some hearing issues and don't wear my hearing aid in the house since Josie's yelling would be much more amplified if I did...I ask 'what' quite often. If we are watching tv and turn it down during the commercials, Josie keeps saying 'what' as if she has the heating issue. It cracks us up every time.

Anita, Josie is really getting to be funny! :) I can certainly understand why you wouldn't want to hear Josie in full scream mode. In my younger years I had super keen hearing. Now I really feel blessed that my hearing is somewhat reduced and my 3 macaws screaming is not as loud to me as I am sure it would be to others if they were in the same room with them.

My alexandrine Clover likes to look and the mirror. He will look this way and that. Stretch up, crouch low. And then he will look at himself with one eye right up to the mirror and say "A[Users must be registered and logged in to view attached photos or hyperlinks] cuute". It's so funny.
beaker tries to talk quite a bit, but mostly i can't understand his strange little green cheek conure voice. it sounds like listening to someone talk in a different room, i can tell it's speech, but just can't make it out.
he only did this once, but one time he bit me. i said, very calmly, "don't bite me". he bit me again and yelled "BITE ME!" i do get the occasional "love you" and lots of kissy noises.

Listening to Rocky would kind of freak me out but intrigue me at the same time.

Today my daughter Julia and I went to write down everything Rocky said . Owen [my rb2] flew on top of his cage he said "Don't fly up there". I think this was referring to Julia "Rocky forgot who you are" "Rocky forgets everything" "Rocky loves you ,not her". Then he started singing "Im going upstairs" "Don't stay up there". Whats funny is I had just taken him upstairs for the first time the day before [Users must be registered and logged in to view attached photos or hyperlinks] "Tell Pearl I love him" "All right Im done" "Pearls a jerk " [and we stopped there [Users must be registered and logged in to view attached photos or hyperlinks]]

Dave texted me at work .He had given the Macaws a cookie . Ruby the Gw had them Rocky said "She took both " "she beats me up " LOL :). Tequila [my zon] ,poor guy is very hormonal . I let him out of his cage and he marched across the back of the couch. Its funny, such a sight . he looks like an old man hunched over with his hands behind his back as hes walking :) .he gets by the Macaws cage and does the Coppacabana [sp] dance with lots of grunts [He likes Ruby the GW} Ruby said while he was doing that in front of her "Don't do that " :) LOL

Terri you need to write a Memoir type book on Rocky's sayings. Something like 'A Diary of The Life and Times of A Macaw In Love' :)
my husband always gets up before i do. beaker heard him come out of the bedroom and yelled "BITE ME, BITE ME, BITE ME!"
