i had Juliet get out of her cage last night and flew straight into a ceiling fan that was on, never been so scared for one of my birds ,lucky for her she just ended up with a very nasty bruise and 1 cracked rib,and it was only a few days ago i was saying number one rule with ceiling fans and birds is make sure they are off , if i had let her out it would of been off but it was still my fault as i didnt close the cage up properly.

Oh poor baby! I have a ceiling fan in my room, but it is always off when the birds are out. It is actually one of the budgies favorite places to perch. :th_biggrin:

Glad every one is ok there. I have developed a routine now. Before I let the birds out I check window coverings, put cat in bedroom and close the door. Now I will add my 2 ceiling fans to the list.

I always make sure they are off .its my number one rule. She escaped ,due to me not locking it Properly. I feel so bad . Maddy its the first place all my birds go once they are out.

Yes she is on meds.i took her first thing this morning and stayed up all night with her. She has a nasty bruise with a hematoma .broken rib .as long as infection does not set in she will be fine and meds should stop all infections.

Oh, my! I hope she gets better fast. Poor baby. This is the reason why we took the blades off all our ceiling fans. We didn't want any accidents.

Good for her that she had a Daddy who is so attentive and knew what to do for her without panicking.

Oh no! Poor baby! I am glad she is going to be ok! I hope you are ok as well!

That is a great idea about the blades Deb, thanks! The store I got Rosie from was very clear about the dangers of fans. So the rule is they aren't allowed on, ever. I catch my husband breaking the rule in his office now and then. But since he and Rosie merely tolerate each other she doesn't spend time in there. I think I may remove the blades in the rest of the house as a precaution.

I hope she makes an easy recovery! It's so nice when people know what to do and don't panic. :-) Good job

Wow! That's a gnarly wound! She is so lucky to be alive!! Poor baby girl, I'm happy to hear she's going to be ok. I know it wasn't your fault, Steve, accidents happen. Ceiling fans are a must in my home, come summer. This will make me take notice when I let the birds out, for sure!

Steve, I am so glad she's on the mend and getting better every day. She's lucky to have a caring, devoted dad in you.

Glad she's feeling better, I can't believe how badly that cut into her! We ALWAYS make sure our fan is off when the birds are out but it does make it tough because we have really high ceilings and in the winter the ceiling fan is the only thing that circulates the warm air so it doesn't all stay upstairs. I really want one of those bladeless ceiling fans but they are sooooo expensive :/ I've been hoping they come out with a more affordable one soon.

I think ill just get a/c lot safer . I've been scared to put them on. My house mate thought it was funny tonight when I opened there cage to let them out he yelled the fan I closed the door very quick. Fan was not on. Did not see the funny side of it.
