View Full Version : Coqui's First Day On The Job!

I brought Coqui into the shop for the first time today! She stayed in her carrier for a few minutes then I put her carrier up to the cage at the store and she crawled out onto the floor of the cage and began to tear up the newspaper. LOL! She was clearly nervous, but was brave enough to come outside of the cage and climb around. Of course before too long, she got on the floor, so I got her on her perch and put her on the playgym we built for her at the store. She squawked now and then when a customer came into the store, but everyone was patient with her as I told them it was her first time in. She was a little stubborn getting back into her carrier. But she finally got in. All in all, I thought it went well. Here are some pics:
Enjoying her new playgym

Such a good thing to do with her for socialization. Are you going to continue her outings?

She is simply beautiful! She's going to get the hang of coming to the store in no time. Looks like she ended up having fun.

Yes, I will bring her in about once a week for right now and see how she does from there. It can be stressful for her but I think it is worth the stress to get her socialized.

Yes, she is a cutie! When her feathers are up like that, it is usually because she is nervous, but not always. In this case, it was definitely nerves!

Glad things are working out well with her. You can almost see the "not pleased " expression on her face at first.

Lol! Yes, she had her nervous moments. It will get better with time. ;)

Holy Moly, Blanca! What a brave soul you are and what a lucky bird Coqui is! I think it's wonderful that you can include your birds into your work schedule :).

Great pics! I love the fact that you can bring your guys to the store for socialization. I bet your customers do too, especially the kids! :)
Her nervous head puff is really cute. She has a nice full set of head feathers, it's great! Rosie's warning head feather look is not nearly as cute. She doesn't ever have a full puff look due to constant pinnies. Less puff, more Mohawk. ;) The puff is so much prettier!!

Thanks Mare! It may be stressful to start, but anything worth doing isn't always easy. She needs this. I know that once she understands that the store is a safe place, she will love it. It may take time as she is nervous around strangers. Baby steps. I love bringing my fids to work. Then they are not stuck at home day after day. :)

My customers really enjoy the birds. Savannah always comes out of her cage when she see's kids at the counter if she is not out already.
Coqui is definitely cute when she puts on her alfro. Lol! ;)

That's so wonderful how Coqui has adjusted so quickly to you and yourroutine. Especially to going to work! Gee I wished I could bring my birds to work. I could just see it around here with 3 screaming macaws and a mad redheaded ekkie putting the hex on everyone! :)

De' - That is exactly why I only bring one at a time! LOL!
I have Coqui with me here today for her second visit at work and she is doing wonderfully! Much better then her first visit! She has been playing, staying on her cage and not wandering, getting into mischief and much more relaxed! I am so happy she is easing into this! Yay! Here are some pics I took today:

That's a bummer Terri. I had to laugh at Coqui, she saw me with chocolate and really really wanted some. I told her "I'm sorry sweetie but chocolate is a big no no for you."

How cute Coqui is in those photos!! I love her silly upside down look and the 'Big Hair' look. :th_biggrin:
Coqui definitely has the B&G 'Life is fun' attitude. They are the clowns of the macaw world. And an impish personality at times!!:th_pinklol2: She needed you to come into her life to bring out the true Coqui! :th_hug8:

That is one of the reasons I've always wanted a B&G. I am a bit of a goof, so having a clown for a bird, fits me to a T! Lol! I do feel that I help her silly side come out! :th_biggrin:

Thanks Maddy! That one is my fave, too! :th_wink:
