After a few months of putting the harness on and off Meiko, and him wanting it off pretty much right after it was on, I finally decided to just put it on him and run him outside. He didn't even notice it really!!! He kept tripping on it but besides learning to walk with it on, he was amazing. Haha Now he doesn't need to be in his travel cage if I wanna take him with me!!! Yay Meiko! Big accomplishment, bud. *proud momma* :)

He was fine eating branches and watching the other birds but he got scared when the kids came outside. :/

Beautiful! I got a harness for 2 of my birds but other than letting them see it I haven't gotten round to trying more - will definitely get onto it now that you've reminded me :)

Haha do it! I just trained him a little every day just putting his head through and leaving it on his head while eating his treat. I also grab him under his wings often to get him used to it. Then today I just had him put his head through and then put him the rest of the way in it and went outside with him right away. He didn't even mind. He chewed on it a little bit, but he was more into chewing up the tree and these little apples I found on this other tree. Lol It only took me a month or so to get him used to it, but he trusts me a lot. I can't pretty much do anything to him.

You have done a great job with the harness training Jade!
Hello JadeC,
Great, after all your training, that you finally were ready to take Meiko outside wearing the harness and that it went so well.
Meiko loved being ouitside so much that he forgot he was wearing the harness. You did a good job with your harness-training!
It's wonderful you can take him outside now wearing the harness instead of having to use a travel-cage. Congratulations!
You look so very proud at the 2nd. photo of you with Meiko outside. I loved to see that emotion at your face at that photo!
And Meiko is a beautiful Caique!
My U2 Maxi even helps me when I put on the Aviator Harness on her.
But my CAG Alex still freaks out when he only sees the harness. I can't put it on with Alex.
His fear makes him to bite as hard as he can and wow that did hurt the first time I ever tried it.
It made it to be the last attempd I did too. My hand was bleeding an hurting a lot.
Greetings from the Netherlands,
Rita

Thank you Steve and Mare!! Meiko loves being outside, but before he had to stay in his travel cage, or sometimes when it's nice out, I'd let him in the trees with nothing on haha Now I don't have to worry anymore. Plus, I think birds are like dogs in a sense. They need to go outside and fly or climb around to get their energy out and because it's what they naturally do, so it enhances their mental health. Plus, it's proven that sun is beneficial to humans and animals. PLUS plus, it brings owner and bird bond closer. Just my opinions. Haha

Letting them climb the trees with nothing on is so scary, I agree with you there, Jade! I'm not being facetious, at all. This is very cool that you have accomplished this with Meiko :)

Love the photos of Meiko in his harness! He did a fantastic job of getting used to it in a hurry. He was probably saying to you, "Would you just hurry up Mom & quit worrying." "I'm ready to party in the trees!!"
I was able to get Roscoe ' s harness on him twice before he was a year old. Then the next spring after a long winter of no outside time he was not going for it anymore. I could get the wings in no problem, but getting the head part past that big busy beak was impossible. Now I can't find it, I think he secretly hid it or maybe chewed it up & hid the evidence.
It is do much easier to take Ruby Jewel or Angel out since they don't require a harness. And I have not even attempted to get near Leyla Belle with her harness!! LOL

Haha Sounds like you have your hands full, D!! Now that I'm in California, I'll probably be taking Meiko out all the time!!
