Very interesting. I don't have much experience with lories or ekkies.
I do love male ekkies, I just think they are the sweetest! I know female ekkies are dominant. When Rosie was at the store bc she was being hand fed we had an experience with a strong willed girl ekkie. She was boarding at the store and decided she did not like Rosie. She kept getting out of her cage and going to Rosie's cage and yelling at her. It was actually kind of funny.
Bird Paradise has an all black young lory. I have had him/her out a few weeks ago to preen her a bit and she refused to go back in her cage. Not mean, just kept maneuvering herself so it was difficult. So funny and strong willed. Yesterday she was killing me, just so much personality. She asked to be preened, which I did through the cage bars. She was hopping, jumping and dancing all over trying to get me to take her out. I never realized lories were so full of spunk and personality. I am hoping she finds a home soon, what an awesome bird.
Anyway, I can see the comparison just from the two birds I described. So the article makes sense to someone without much experience. :)

i have always thought they belong in the lorry family, i used to breed lorries, before i got my eckkies, and could see the similarities between the two, right down to the shape of the head and beak just larger. i see it more in females than males, atm i have the most beautiful sound out side, all the too's including the blacks are coming in saying good morning to the sun ,i love hearing all the birds of a morning .

Very interesting! I think it certainly seems possible that they are closely related.
