Hello,
My name is Lisa and I am the proud new mum of a delightful (read mischievous) Green Cheek Conure called Rygel. This is the first time I have ever had a feathered baby and I cannot wait to learn along with him. In the past I have mostly been a fur baby person with cats, dogs and even a wallaby for a while. I am currently living in Australia, Queensland.
I am excited to join this wonderful community and have already learnt so much reading through different posts. I would like to learn how to make toys and improve my knowledge of parrots and parrot care.

Hi Lisa and welcome to the forum!! I am so glad you joined us!
I don't have any experience with smaller birds so I probably won't be much help. But I am excited to read all about your adventures and see pics of all your babies! :)

Welcome Lisa its good to have another Queenslander on board, love the pic of Rygel, as for toys just go out side grab some branches and start making some, also check out cheep cheap bird toys on face book there here in oz, and they have lots of toys, ive also found the $2 shops have lots of stuff in them to make toys from, so once again :th_welcome2:

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I have found this place so helpful already. In a little bit I am going to brave and try to upload a clip of Rygel "helping" me make my first ever toy. I learnt a lot from that experience and realised he is just as distracted by new things as I am. I forgot to give more information about my boy.
Rygel
Sex: Unknown
Personality: Sweet, mischievous, curious, energetic, knows what he wants and when he wants it, cuddly and I can go on and on
Likes: Fruit, foot/beak rubs, corn, balsa wood, paper (anything he can shred), lime tree, cameras/laptops/desktops or any electronic you are paying attention to, chillin with us anywhere.
Dislikes: Bed time, carrot, loud noises, being in his cage, mobile phones/ipods.
This is Rygel doing big stretches in his Dad's office. We adjusted one of the cabinets to add a calcium perch (his favourite) and branches from our trees.1585

All u have to get is some two by fours mark it however thick u want then saw cut the wood then Save some that is like 6-8 inches for later then drill a hole in the middle then u can get some rope small enough to get through the holes get the saved peices of wood drill

Srry hit it on accident drill 4-6 holes put the rope through then tie knot on either side so your bird cannot pull the rope out after that put pieces of wood on tie knots every 1-2 pieces until the rope is full then pop it in the cage u can change the sizes as u please but that's pretty much how u do it

Welcome to our flock Lisa.:th_welcomesign:
Rygel is so adorable!! Green Cheeks are very sweet little guys when they mature. Some say they are nippy when young. I didn't get to raise mine from a baby, she was 5 1/2 yrs old when I got her as a re-home, but my Peta is a little love bug. Glad you've joined and added Rygel to our flock. :gcc:
