One of my supervisors at work has always told me that when her dad can no longer care for their African Greys, they will be moving in with her and her hubby. The problem is that her hubby does not want them and now, her dad asked if I would take them. As much as I would love to, I really do not have the room....not to mention that Ben would leave if he had any other animals to listen to during the day. They are about 30 years old and have been together their entire life. I've told her that it just won't work out for me to take them because I've read that macaws can have respratory issues from the dust from the greys and this did not deter her. Tonight, while her dad was at her house, she invited us (and Josie) to visit and I feel like i went to an interview. She really wants to keep them when the time comes because one sounds like her mom and the other sounds like her dad. The other really cute part is that since her parents are not originally from the states, the greys talk with the same accent as her parents and part of me wonders if at 30+ years old that would change.

I hope these birds do find a home where they can live out the rest of their lives in peace. If you cannot take them in then I am sure someone else could. How many times have bird lovers said "Oh for a bigger house"

When my grey does say something he has a couple accents. They have never changed in all the years I have had him. I will say that I know of a lot of homes with old and new world parrots mixed in. I just keep a air purifier near Paris's cage and wipe down the old world cages and daily showers. (Old world and too's are the dusty ones)

I hope these guys find a forever home. I will say it is nice having multiple birds as even if they do not play together, they do talk and watch each other.

One thing that you should probably also consider is that if you were somehow able to talk Ben into taking in the Greys, since he really doesn't want them it seems there may be a fair chance you wouldn't end up keeping them for long. That's never a good thing for a parrot :(. Perhaps you can assist your supervisor in locating a forever home for these birds where they will fit in very well?

I have no doubt that she will keep them. She's had them since she was 7 and when they talk, one sounds like her mom (who passed away) and the other like her dad, so to her she can't imagine rehoming them unless it was to me so she can visit whenever she wants. She's always told her husband (even when they were dating) that they are a package deal. She just thought she would "try" to rehome them and since it didn't happen, they will have a really nice room at her house that he will avoid. We talked the next day because I was worried she would really try to rehome them but that is no longer a concern.

A[Users must be registered and logged in to view attached photos or hyperlinks] I am glad to hear that your supervisor will be taking & keeping the Greys. I'm sure they are as used to her as she is them and would rather be with her if they can't be with her Dad. It was a nice gesture on her part to honor you with the trust of her beloved parents' Greys. That means she feels you are doing a super job with Josie and knows you would take good care of her pride & joy if it were an option.

I'm glad that all worked out Anita! I bet it is a kick listening to their accents! :)
