Well its that time of the year and Doctor Scott the traveling avian vet is in town and I will be taking Paris and Danny in to see him. The other two will go in 6 months when he gets back. Paris will be getting a micro chip and Danny will be sexed along with both of them getting a check up and general grooming. The visit will cost $25 for Paris plus the $20 for the chip and Danny will be $20 plus $5 for the surgical sexing. I would love to get every one done and chiped at this time but I am running short on funds. If Doctor Scott [Users must be registered and logged in to view attached photos or hyperlinks] comes near you I would take my birds in for a great price and check up. If you have a house full he will do home visits also.
I will try to get some pictures!

That is very convenient for you. It is so stressful to take them out to be checked.

He is not coming to my home, he wants at least 12 or more birds to make a new stop. Taking the birds out is no issue. I load them up randomly to go for car rides and they get treats just so when I do have to take them out, they look forward to it. I normally will just choose one and they get the ride, treat and a chance to rampage around the car when I stop. :D

Sooooo I forgot me phone, sorry no pics. :(

But we had a great visit. This was at a bird club members house and she had it set up in her laundry room. We where first there but others where right behind us so I decided to wait until there was a brake and then go then. Paris had a great time yelling "HI!" every time a new person walked in. She had lots of people tell her how nice and pretty she was. She really liked lunging at the ones who got to close and would jump when she did it. *sigh* . One man who has had macaws in the past put his hand out the proper way, with smooth side of the fist up so if she did bite she could not get a grip. She lunged and then licked him...:th_rofl:

Paris passed her physical with flying colors and is at a great weight. She got micro chipped. Doctor Scott told me that I could reg her chip for $20 or just leave it as is and if she is ever found they would call him and he would call me. That was nice to know so I can hold off until at least after Christmas and then do it then. After seeing the micro chip put in I am going to have all my birds chipped. It is a great way to prove ownership and get your bird back if lost and turned in. The Doctor was saying he wished more people would have it done and just maybe there would be more birds back to worried owners and less in rescues.

Danny is over weight, that I knew, but much better than it was the last time I took him, woops I mean HER , to the vet. I had taken her to a Avian vet last time but he said she was under weight for the breed, even though the research I had done said she was over weight. So even with Avian vets there are good ones and bad ones. He looked at her beak and told me with her former malnutrition and most likely a mild case of liver disease caused by the sunflower seed only diet, that her beak may never grow 100% normal, but he could see where a better diet and exercise was helping so it will only need minor work 2 times a year. I did have her surgically sexed. If you go to his web site there is a great guide and pictures there on how it is done. She is a healthy mature female with no sign of reproductive issues. She was stitched up with 2 little stitches and I now know what sex she is if I ever run into any major hormonal issues, I know better what to do for her. With the sexing surgery I opted to get her chipped next visit.

Both birds are back in there cages and happily eating!

Glad things went pretty well :) Funny about Danny being a girl.Still going to try her out at your friends?

Yes. They are really looking forwards to this. Danny will have a chance to do some socializing with others, and with the finding of liver issues they are prepared to do some TLC with her diet for me. I am switching her over now to Harrison's high Potency soaked in Aloe Vera juice. They eat whole foods, as I do, so she will still be able to eat dinner with them when it is bird safe. At any time Danny or the family has issues I can have her home in a half hour. :D I see this as a win. Danny is flexable (if not I would never try this) and it gives them a chance to find out if parrot ownership is for them.

Dr Scott surgically sexed my birds years ago in Virginia. He is a wonderful Dr. and I just love how he is so willing to share his knowledge. Did not know he traveled all the way to California, but the man has the right stuff. I loved him. He also tattooed and chipped my little guys. Everyone that meets him really love how he can relate to the birds so well.

If you look on his web site and pull up the calendar he is all over the country! If he does not come to your area you call his office and ask how many birds he wants to see to make it worth the extra stop to your area. I know he just added a stop north of me to a town that has no vet for 6 hours in any direction!
