So I love the idea of getting some stainless steel bolts for my macs to chew on. I know that Savannah loves grinding her beak on the metal parts of her cage. So I think she will love the idea.
Tony, I know you use bolts for at least Zaf. Can you give me some tips on what size and how you attach them and stuff like that? A pic would be great! Thanks in advance for your help.
Others are welcome to chime in.

yeah no problem :) i have to do something similar for cooper. he LOVES bells and the quicklinks on his toys, so im thinking he will like bolts/washers/nuts ect.
Blanca: You can obtain high quality stainless steel bolts and threaded shafts from industrial fastener supply shops. The ones I get for Zaf are varying diameters and lengths. The thread diameters that Zaf uses are 3/8", 7/16", and 1/2"... and I even have a couple of 3/4" SS bolts that he likes quite well. It's fairly easy to mount them on cage bars with a pair of flat washers and two SS nuts.
Here's one of Zaf's grinding stations:

They make good foot toys, to a point. It's much easier for a bird to grind on threads when the bolt is securely mounted to a solid object.
I hope that's helpful.
