View Full Version : Lucy's plucking behavior

Lucy has been plucking for about 2 years. It is behavioral and not medical/illness. She only wants to be in dark, closed in places with no toys, thus she gets bored and plucks. Hormonal we think although this is a year round thing with her. Anyway, I've ordered Avicalm and Featheriffic to see if this helps any. I'm also waiting on an air diffuser to come in so I can diffuse some Lavender Essential Oil to help calm her (as she likes to hunt me down to eat me). Anyone have any experience with this or these products? They should be here this evening so we'll be putting it in her water tonight.

Dark, closed places? That is totally strange. What does she do when she is in the sunlight or daylight?

She doesn't mind sunlight or indoor light, she just prefers nesty areas. She stays nesty and hormonal. She can be on my hubby's chest while he's laying on the sofa and all he has to do is to talk to her and she immediately puts that tail up in a mating posture. That's why we went with the avicalm.
I do use these two products on Sassy, Debra. I've always thought Sassy's plucking was due to hormones, also, but the first week after starting this with her, she started to improve to the point of becoming beautifully feathered! She was a seasonal picker so I wasn't sure if it would start up again. I had quit giving it to her a few weeks ago and just recently I've noticed a few spots where she might be getting after herself so, I started up the AviCalm and Featheriffic again and I swear, it stopped her behavior. It hasn't stopped her from being a B with me when my hubby's around but it stopped her from picking at herself. It sure is worth a try. I put the AviCalm in her water and mix the Featheriffic with her oatmeal.

just with the oil check to make sure its ok around birds as a lot are just poison in the air for them.
