So our cinnamon green cheek apparently had a seizure tonight...out of the blue... she was eating some bites of bread off of my sandwich...and drinking water...we went into my sons room so I could help him with a video game....

then she spread her wings straight out and then started flopping...fell to the floor, bounded off of my wife hands before she hit....flopped around more...but I grabbed her quickly, and held her so that she could flap her wings and not get hurt....I could tell she wasn't breathing correctly... so I blew a few very short puffs of air into her cere.... she stopped flopping around and started calming down....

At first she couldn't stand up straight...but she knew she wanted me....and was trying her best to get to me....I picked her up and held her under my jaw(how we cuddle) while my wife attempted to call our vet..

She's calmed down...she acts normal now...and she didn't shown signs of illness prior to this....I'm really concerned...she wanted nothing to do with her cage..and kept just messing around until about 2:45 am...I put her cage in our room and I'm watching her closely...

Going to the vet first thing in the morning...

For those who don't know...Rain is a unique rescue...how often do you hear of a person rescuing a bird from a pet store like Petco? She had been locked away from everyone..they hadn't fed or watered her right...so she was literally eating her own feces and was covered in a black slime..we had her checked out by their vet of course...and they gave us chlorohexidine to spray her with...she smelled really bad too...(wasn't my vet.. they have to use their vet...who's not an avian vet)

So after the visit to their vet, she settled In and was gaining weight and has gotten very attached to me, as I have to her too..I'm still up watching over her...we'll be hitting the vets office as soon as they're open..

I'll keep ya informed..... good night...

That's rough, Brandon :(. I hope the vet doesn't find any serious problems with Rain and that the seizure was only a one time thing. Zaf had a seizure a couple of years ago. Thankfully he has never had another. But Zaf's wasn't a convulsive seizure; it was one in which he went into a frozen, staring state with a blank look on his face and with ho ability to move or keep balance. Nonetheless it was very frightening :(

I remember "Rains" story and how special she is. I know nothing about birds and seizures. You will have to let us know what the right thing to do is.Your not having a good "Bird Week" are you [with the bug spray thing].

Still can't locate my vet...finally got an appointment with another vet that has birds....highly recommended...

Depending on what he says ....we may be hitting up a specialist in Houston. Just gotta know she can take the trip.

I hope Rain recovers well. I'm sorry to hear this :(. My U2 is recovering from one he had on Sept. 14. He's doing well now but after test results his white blood cell count was ridiculously high, meaning infection, so he has been on antibiotics since then. Infection will cause seizures and we are still waiting for full test results to come back before the doc can say for sure what was wrong. I wish the best for Rain, please keep us posted.

They can't find any reason so far. X rays and all of the tests done so far are clean.....

Brandon, I see you're in TX. I'm in East Texas up near the Tyler/Longview area. Where abouts are you? I see you said something about going to Houston so I'm assuming you're in South Texas?

So rain hasn't had any new seizures...and she's acting like normal...maybe even closer to me than she was before..

This has me worried...still no reason for a seizure....

I would be concerned also. Seizures are not the norm and there are many reasons they can happen in a bird.

Brandon - I totally remember when you brought Rain home. She was doing so well with you. I hope this will be her one and only seizure. I'm glad she is ok and hope it stays that way. Keep us posted.

Here she is... in all of her glory...after her seizure the vet had us cut her very short....she could still fly apparently...but she just wasn't flying for us lol...that's why her wings are butchered.....made me sad to do it...

Aww, she loves her daddy. She feels safe with you. You took care of her when she was sick. I'm glad she's feeling much better and has had no more seizures. Keep on doing well, Rain! You are very loved.

My 12 years plus ex aviary conure has seizures sometimes. It is very stressing as you do not know really how to help him best as he is not hand tame. If the other birds are not out we will scoop him up and hold him gently. You cannot perdict them but I noticed the last one came on when he seemed to get over excited, he loves to chirp with the washing machine noises. he lays around the bottom of his cage upside down for a while and then he gently climbs back to his perch and is fine.

Makes me wonder if our wild birds have seizures as do our captive birds.
