As most of you know, Amigo has been laid up for a couple of weeks. This boy was going bonkers in his cage. He has a large cage but can see outside and wanted some of that! Really bad! He's been dancing and begging to go out for days now, so I took him out with me. He hung around on my arm for about 30 secs. before heading to the nearest tree. He is in heaven! He's not being too aggressive with his flying yet but is loving the sunshine :). I think this is good for him although he's not quite done with his meds, this is therapeutic.

I spoke with his vet about his free flying and she agreed that taking that away from him, at this point in his life, would be devastating for him. Today is a good day! :th_dancing:

Amigo deserves to fly free. Most of our birds do not. Wish they could.

Congratulations to Amigo and Mare! I'm so happy to hear that he has reached this point in his recovery :)

I think that all of our birds deserve to fly free. Unfortunately, I feel that it's neither safe nor practical for many of them :(

Yep, he's pretty happy right now :). I hope he comes in when I ask!

I think Amigo might be a fluke, I'm not sure Tony. Alls I know is, he sure wasn't happy in a cage!

Awesome Mare!! Love it!! Soo Soo very happy Amigo is getting back to his old self. :th_hug8:

Amigo is our special boy around here. He is the 'Spokesbird' for all of ours who can't have the freedom he enjoys. You could never take that away form him unless you wanted him to wither away and withdraw from the bird world altogether. It would be the same as depression in us humans if all of a sudden we get locked up for life. Amigo has not done anything wrong to be locked up anymore. :th_biggrin:

I met a lady on FB recently who has a free flight Moluccan Cockatoo named Pearl. Pearl is a female and a certified therapy bird and she is an awesome girl. I did invite this lady to join us on the forum, but so far she has not answered me about it or joined. She did join my group page on FB, & belongs to many other pages, guess she just doesn't do forums. I told her about your Amigo. I told her ya'll would have lots to talk about with your Toos. She wanted you to be friends with her on FB, Mare.

This is wonderful news! Did he come in when you called or was he just enjoying himself too much to bother coming when you called?

He did come in, Debra! He was a bit leery of me because he thought I might dose him with his meds. The vet has me doing this only once a day now, in the morn, so he was safe :). De' I would love to get to know someone else with a free flying cockatoo but my FB is reserved for close family and friends. I hope she'll join up here!

Here are some pics of Amigo, this morning, coming down his ramp for a bite to eat.

I couldn't be happier with Amigo's recovery :). I really thought I was going to lose him. Still waiting on some test results but I will be surprised if he has something not treatable. Tony, I pray for a full recovery for Zaf, as we all do. Kendra, don't you worry, there are lots more stories!

Do you call him back when it is time to come inside? I bet he just loves to look at the world from the tree. How old is he?

Mare

Amigo is 14yrs. old, Dianne and yes he does come back when I call, sometimes it takes a little coaxing but he does come in.

Awesome!! Love the photos Mare!! Amigo looks so happy to be free again. If I were him & got to live in such beautiful surroundings I'd never come inside, especially inside a cage again. LOL

No problem on the FB thing. I told the lady I didn't even know if you were on FB. I doubt she will join here, it has been over 2 weeks now & she hasn't, nor has she even commented on my inviting her. Not sure why, maybe she's had bad results on other forums & is a bit gun shy now. If you are over on FB sometime her Pearl has her own page called: Pearl's World and she posts a lot of photos of Pearl in stores & all over the place. I am really not sure how much free flying Pearl does, but she is never in any kind of harness in her photos that I have seen. Not sure if it is a closed page tho, you may not be able to see anything if it is. The lady belongs to lots of pages & added me to a bunch of them right off the bat. I haven't even been on most of them yet. :th_biggrin:
