All good points Wendy! I just went and saw a new vet today. I have a thread on it. My avian vet retired. So my new vet is going to find me some options for more extensive care and emergencies if he is not available or we need more extensive knowledge. My retired vet was the only certified avian vet in Vermont. Hopefully my new vet will be able to get me some options outside of annual care! It is always good to plan and think ahead in case that emergency happens!

I'm definitely going to talk to my avian vet about this. When Amigo needed an emergency vet, the other Saturday, I sure didn't feel good about taking him there, so I didn't. I'm going to ask her for her honest opinion on where she thinks we should go if there is a next time. Thanks for sharing that, Wendy!

Hi Kenny, this is a great resource; a link to avian vets. Just put in your zip code and find those nearest you.
Appears this one is a choice in your city.

thanks for this post wendy x

years ago when my amazon was ill, he wasn't registered anywhere, although there is a vet just 5 minutes away, supposed to be avian, but he was (maybe still is to this day) very nervous around birds. sadly rocky died (not down to the vet may i add) and a few weeks later we brought jasper home but i was determined not to take another bird or animal of mine there again. i found an avian vet about 15 mins drive away, he has since retired, but now i take jasper to a specialist not too far away, i thought i had struck gold. he is very nice and patient with jasper and will spend time talking to us when we go :)
