I managed to put together the Linnie cage this morning with two little helpers. Even with the help (LOL) I managed to put it together in a little over an hour. That includes putting in all the toys, perches and dishes! Not too shabby I thought!

I am very happy with the cage, but the latches are horrible. The front door one consists of a long metal bar with a hook and the side doors for the food don't even have latches. They just have springs to keep them closed. I think they are grossly under estimating the intelligence of small parrots! I will be adding my own latches! The long metal rod for the front door is just a pain to get in and out. I will find something easier for the kids to maneuver! Any suggestions would be great as I am totally new to the small parrot world. :th_biggrin:
Oh, I did fail to mention one thing! I have to put the bottom grate & plastic pan in through the back. I put it together backwards! :th_oops: So the insert opening is in the back! Hopefully that will give a few of you a good laugh! :th_biggrin:

Oh! Also forgot we have two little huts on order that will go in there, too! Also, one of the 4 plastic dishes broke while trying to put it in! :( I have a heavy hand sometimes! :th_ashamed3:
And I will be replacing the dowels with natural perches as soon as I dig them out. My kids were anxious to get something in there now! LOL!

The birds will never know about any goofs on cage assembly. They are difficult for anyone to get together. I have always had someone else do it for me. The cage is lovely and full of play and strengthing toys, especially the ladder. I have managed to do many fix it jobs in a cage with zip ties. Good job! :awesome-smiley-emot

Thats a lovely cage Blanca. You have it set up very nicely:) That is bigger than the cage I have for Harry and Sally LOL.
I am not going to laugh at you for putting the pan in the wrong way round. I put things back to front on their new cage too, but I am not going to change it now, as it took me too long to put it together :)

Thanks Dianne! It's nice to hear the opinion of an experienced small parrot owner! Glad I did good! ;) I'll try the zip ties on the broken food dish! Great suggestion!
Wendy - LOL! Glad I'm not the only one. That was my feeling too! I can just pull it out from the wall to change the tray. It's too much of a pain to fix at this point! That's what wheels are for, right? I got such a good deal on this cage I thought I would go for the gusto! That's why it's so big! Get as big of a cage as I can afford has always been my motto! ;)

The real question is where is my room? Cause I wanna come squish those babies! It's a great setup. I had looked at that cage a few times when I had my lovie, but I was concerned about the door latches. I think they will have a great tricked out home, I'm sure you will have all the doors figured out in no time. :-)

Yeah, I didn't realize the doors wouldn't have latches on the sides at all and the front one are just a pain. I've got some ideas! ;)
Hmmm, we will actually have a futon in the bird room if you don't mind the noise! Lol!;)
Most guests that shared a room with Quincy in the past didn't always appreciate the live alarm clock! :D
They look so huggable, don't they?!

I love the cage & all the stuff in it. I know your fabies will love it too. :th_hug8: Peta's large cage similar to it has really good locks for the two front doors. They are the ones that have the half turn style type lock that connects the door to the frame. It does have the two side doors high up that just push shut that are supposed to be for breeder boxes since her sis a flight cage. I did have to use one of those metal rings you screw the hasp thingy closed to keep her from popping them open.
:ROFLMAODog: Count me & hubby in this exclusive jet setting club of putting the pan & grate spacer on backwards. With us, not once~~OH NO~~but twice on the big macaw cage my boys used for 1 1/2 days inside the large kennel enclosure. All they used the cage for was to hang out on top of & let poop drop through & all over it. So we took it out, dismantled it & put it in the garage. It took us 3 1/2 hrs to assemble.:th_LOL:
Then when Leyla Belle was close to being old enough to come home I decided it would be a great cage for her. We drug it out, reassembled it (it won't fit through my doors, so it has to be torn down anytime it is stored) & yep!! Put that sucker in backwards again!!! I found out when I tried to put the pan in & I said the same thing. That's what the wheels are for, I will roll it out to where I can get it from the back.:th_loltears:

De' - I don't feel so bad now! LOL! So far I've only done it once! LOL! Of course I am remodeling our current living room soon to become a bird room. In order to get Savannah's cage in there I have to take it apart and put it back together. Let's just say...I'm not looking forward to it! So I have plenty more opportunities to get it wrong again! LOL! I will try to be careful not to do that with her cage! :th_biggrin:
Thanks Debra - I think it turned out nice.
Wulfgeist - Thanks! We are anxiously waiting to bring them home after they are weaned. Should be mid to late Sept when we bring them home. I have a lot going on at my house right now, so I put it together while I had a free moment. Now I won't have to worry about it! :)

So I decided changing out the bowls that came with this cage is going to be waaaaay to difficult for my little ones to deal with so I am going to exchange the plastic dishes out for easy to remove stainless steel ones and get some easy latches for the doors. Would these work for latching the doors? Or should I do quick links. My only concern with quick links is they made be hard for the kids to use.

Blanca, that is all i use on the out side latches to lock the doors,i find them quick and easy, until the day they work out how to open them but so far they have not, and that's not from lack of trying, lol
