Very amusing to read, but yeah what a ridiculous amount of falsehood! I'm really amused they put the 'how to determine if your bird is dead' in this article. Possibly cause they knew the info would kill all birds whose owners followed it! :th_LOL:

For goodness sake!
(Sorry, if I take cursing out of my vocab I lack a proper expletive for this!)
Slit their tongue - I had to look that up...why in the world would anyone do that, I wondered? The answer made me even sicker than the question did...and oh yeah, sure, most animals with forked tongues talk better, very sound reasoning...because we have something else to compare that to - like our own tongues, and of course much evidence of talking snakes abounds...The very NERVE that someone would do that to an animal even if it did work - torture in trade for my auditory pleasure, mmm hmmm, now that's fair...
Doesn't sound like they DID live very long back then on this advice - the most healthy of birds get wart like tumors? That ooze???? Really? Anyone been giving Polly some scritches lately and turned up one of THOSE?
And parrots are prone to seizures, huh, and must be doused with cold water to wake them up from their "fit"? Sheesh, I want to bring this article to my vet so he can tell me the myriad of diseases/afflictions these guys were getting! At least they had a failsafe way to check for mortality - if you attempt to drown your parrot and he doesn't bite you, he is probably dead. Yup.
The one that was actually just FUNNY to me was the "don't feed meat or they will PLUNK out their feathers for the taste of blood". Oh yeah, vampire birds. :)
Since reports of long lived parrots have been coming in longer than this article suggests, lol...at least it seems some people ignored this advice and followed their own common sense. Thank god!

Just goes to show you things you read are not always true. Trust the author. When I was a kid my first parakeet only received Hartz Mt. seed. Every once in a while he got a lettuce leaf. Parrot nutrition has come a long way since that time.

Wow. That is a totally crazy article. If people followed that advice, well, I just feel for those parrots. I cannot believe anyone would print such a thing. Those poor parrots!
