For all those who use to be members on PF and knew mara wentz she had a red fronted macaw named erin mara has just told me that she was transporting erin to her screen house when erin lost her footing and got scared she then flew up into a tree mara has just told me that her dad tried to scare erin out of the tree to get her back down to mara by setting off a bottle rocket which scared eirn even more and she sadly flew off if anyone in the lushby maryland area could keep a look out for her and prey that she is safely returned to mara who loves her dearly i have included a picture so you know what erin looks like let's get this sweet bird home to her loving parronts.

I'm so sorry to hear about this. One thing I should note though is that Erin is a Red-fronted Macaw. They resemble a Military Macaw, but they're somewhat smaller. Hopefully Erin can be located soon!

I know a few folks on FB who live in Maryland. Not sure how close to Mara, but I will put it on my group page to be on the look out for Erin. I'm way too far away to be of any other help, but I do hope she finds her soon.:th_hug8:

Paul: If it hasn't already been done, you might contact Sonja. She runs a bird rescue in MD and has lots of connections there. She's a registered member on a number of bird forum sites, including this one. Here user name is simply "sonja".

I know not exactly the best move to make when she was already scared from loosing her footing in the first place and i will be sure to keep you all up to date.

I grew up in Lusby, my family still lives there. I posted to FB and added a picture of my own guy. I hope that Mara gets Erin back. I will mention that this is not the first time this has happened with Erin. I do hope she chooses to work with her in harness in the future.

I just wouldn't dream off letting any of my birds free fly as you never know weather there going to just take off or get spooked but i did not know that mara has lost erin before maybe this time it will be lesson learned and she will harness train her if she get's her back.

Yeah, i just hope for the birds sake she is found safe and sound. Im sure that all my Lusby friends will be on the lookout and spread the word. I have had the horror of having my bird fly off from a stupid mistake. Thankfully I got her back and lesson learned its frustrating when to watch someone make the same mistake over and over again.

I have my head screwed on right and the only time the birds are out without a harness is when in the house and all windows and doors are shut i couldn't imagine the hurt one must feel if there beloved bird just fly's off and not knowing if your ever going to see them again i am looking to buy a very large aviary so all three of my birds well i say three it will be three in sepember when i get keko so they will have the freedom to fly around outside without being restricted to a harness. :)

I get that, I've been looking for an aviary for some time. I would love for my birds to have that freedom. No aviary is going to allow my b&g fly, but I will be looking into free flying her in an indoor arena for horses. I know it can be so easy to make a mistake unjust hope that we learn from them.

I too remember Mara losing Erin once before! Lucky she got her back and we can only hope that this will be the case again this time! I so hope if she gets Erin back that she uses a harness in future!

I would not dream of taking Codie outside without any restraint! There is now way I could get a harness on him:( I take him out there in his travel cage and even put an extra lock on the door, incase he manages to lift the latch. I am just totally paranoid over losing him outside!

I would also love to have an aviary built for him to fly about in outside :)

I am looking for a very large one as there will be the 3 of them in it georgie and jinx get along fine together and love hanging out it's just going to be a case of getting them to accept keko which will take some time aswell but for the time being the aviary will be sectioned off jinx and georgie on one side and keko on the other this is just during warm days in the house they will be in there own cages next to one another and i'm sure at some point you will get codie on a harness wendy i never thought it would happen with jinx but he seemed to love it. :)

I added the info about Erin on my group page on FaceBook today. Hopefully some of my members know the area and will watch out for her.

My Roscoe & Leyla Belle as well as Pet will never be taken outside without harness or carrier. They would be off in a hurry and none of the three will allow the harness to be put on. I did get it on Roscoe when he was still really young twice, but now he tries to turn the head part into a chew toy & won't let me get it past his beak. He loved being outside, he just doesn't realize that is the way to go out again.

My two with damaged wings are a breeze to take outside since I don't have to worry about losing them & no harness necessary. That would be Ruby Jewel and Angel I speak of. Neither one will ever be able to fly in this lifetime. Now I wouldn't let Ruby Jewel get into a big tree, she can climb & run very fast! And my tree climbing days are long since over.:th_LOL:

I will be building an outdoor aviary next year attached to my house so I don't have to worry about escapes to & from with my flock. I want it for just out time when I can be out there with them, not for housing. So i am planning to use pvc piping for the framework.

Seems like ruby jewel still makes sure you have your work cut out for you even tho she is unable to fly :th_LOL: and an aviary is ideal for any bird owner during the hot weather it's always nice to have your flock outside with you enjoying the sunshine and being able to watch them play with there toys in it. :th_biggrin:

That's wonderful news!!:th_hug8: Hope this never happens again to her.

I would be terrified of ever getting close to the outdoors if I'd lost one of mine once, but twice would be like, "Send me to the psychic ward!" "I'd be looney after that scare!"

So glad to hear this news. :) I still believe in free flight and I know that Mara has put a lot of time, energy and belief into what she does with Erin. It all may be luck but it could also be a learning curve for not only us but our birds.
