I might have the chance to adopt a caique and a severe macaw! Their owner has them and 4 greys. She has gotten seriously ill and is needing to rehome her birds. I asked about the greys, but I got there too late. She said she will be needing a home for her other two birds when she got over the loss of her beloved greys. I said to keep me in mind. I know nothing about these two breeds so I have some research to do should this pan out. Any advice you macaw owners and caique owners might have would be extremely appreciated.

Wow..how exciting Debra! I have never had a chaique but I love my Savannah girl. She is such a sweet Macaw! As you know, I will be getting another in the fall. Each and every bird will be different, but I have fallen in love with macaws and think they are a wonderful companion!

You must be very excited over this Debra and also a bit apprehensive! I dont have experience with either Macaws or caique's, so I cant help you there, but I am sure Jade will give you some great advice on them, and as you know we have lots of macaw owners here:)

I hope it all works out for you.

Haha Yay! Come to the dark side of caique ownership...!!! :P I think caiques are super fun birds!! They are pretty easy going birds compared to macaws, so it'll be a good balance having the two. You can ask me anything and I'll try to help you out!!! Congrats!

Debra ,don't worry [you have plenty of bird experience! [you don't even know]. Each species has their personality. But you have enough birds [to know how to read them]. I don't know how many of yours are rehomes. But the ones I have [its building their trust] and don't push them to do something their not ready for. Over time things get better and better [when they know their truly loved] . Your so lucky !! I love my caiques and would love to experience a mini macaw. ;)

I hope it works out for you, Debra! Lots of folks adore their mini Macaws. Caiques are really cool little birds, too :)

I actually originally wanted a military macaw, but didn't think I had enough experience to handle one back in the day. Haha

Hope you get them Debra! :th_biggrin:

No experience with Caiques or mini macaws here either, so no help to give you with the particular species. I too think you have what it takes to make this work for you.
