Josie can fly if she wants to! Ben was watering the flowers with the hose and I took Josie to the front door to see what was going on outside. He hit the glass of the front door and Josie thought it was coming at her and she took off flying. She laughed the whole 5 feet she flew to the desk and knocked everything off with her slide in landing. The funniest part is that she cried ow when she landed. When I picked her back up she kept stretching out her wings as if wow, they work!

Are Josie's wings clipped?

Anita- please take care not to startle Josie into flight. A video clip that Ben posted a while back in conjunction with what you've just described has me a bit concerned. Serious accidents can (and do) occur from indoor fear flights during which birds are forced to make quick decisions. It's nice that Josie can fly but her landing, as you've described it, seems to be a telltale. No criticism intended... I'm merely concerned about bird safety.

Thank you for your concern, tony. She is not easily startled as there is plenty of activity here and she is more than happy to join in. Today was a fluke as was the video that was posted. She gets around by either being carried or by little flutters here or there. It is rare that she gains any kind of real distance. I've been working on exercising her wings so I'm actually quite proud of her little accomplishment today. Her landing was a slide in because she was landing on a flat surface and didn't have anything to grab onto.

Just thought I would ask where Ben has been? I really enjoyed reading his posts, they made me laugh. Josiesdad is a great writer. :)

I would just say further that bird safety will always be our priority here.
