Good one.
That's right on point, Wendy! Sadly, though, many of the people who didn't listen and then part with the birds they never should have purchased (or otherwise acquired) are prone to ignore admonishments... and they tend to have 10,000 ways to rationalize abandoning their birds :(

Sadly, many people rush out and buy a bird on a whim without doing any research whatsoever. :(

I read it almost every time I browse CL, "Don't have time for 'it' anymore, just want to find 'it' a good home." They never stop to think 'it' has feelings too & wonder why 'they' no longer love 'it'!

This is the best one yet!! [I always hear the excuse ] they were ill and had to get rid of them . IMO [I think a lot of times they created a screaming bird.

The "it" always plucks a nerve for me. I just don't get why some people even bring home a bird in the first place. I think it should be mandatory for them to have classes, listen to screaming parrots, see an ugly bite, ect. Maybe then they would think twice about what it takes to be a good steward for these creatures.

I agree with you all! If only we could fix this problem. I guess adopting rehomes is the best thing we can do and try to educate anyone we know even considering a bird!
Great post and I agree it should be posted in pet stores and people need to pass a class before allowed to take one of these wonderful creatures home. That being said, some folks learn as they go and if the bird is lucky, these folks learn to adjust and start to do research, QUICKLY, for the birds sake. It takes a caring person to want to keep such high maintenance birds, IMO.
