So a little while back I found that Parrot City had closed down and was looking to get rid of a few large items that they had left. They had a double Macaw cage and a double java tree that they used for their in house birds. These birds had since left and the owner sold both items to me. I was actually out the door with both for less than $400 total. Needless to say I got a nice deal. This photo was at his house before I brought them home.

We figured you can never be too sure if his birds were healthy so Jenna spent a few days cleaning everything very well.

At first all we had was Teka, so this was his setup.

Then we got Ruthie and started setting her side up. Unfortunately Teka has to be moved to the other side of the house to quarantine the new Macaw.

Finally this is how far along we are with the java tree. Can you find Teka the Amazon?

I was dreaming of it too. I search all craigslist pages within 200 miles of here and that's how I find this stuff. My first 34" cage I got free when I bought a $90 play stand by doing the same thing.

Excellent set up and a great deal! I have never seen rope used in this way for perches. Pretty cool, but I am curious how will you clean it?

Cleaning the rope is actually pretty easy, everything just wipes right off. But preparing the rope took a ton of work. I soaked all 425 feet of the rope in hot water in my bath tub for 24 hours. This causes manila to shrink in LENGTH making in much thicker in diameter. Then I placed it in my dryer in sections to heat it up and dry it out. This makes it easier to work with but also more brittle. At this point it can be tied in tighter knots to keep toes from being caught in them. If a toe does get caught they can break the fibers loose now that its more brittle.

Can you tell me about your climbing net?

I actually made it. Honestly I will not make another either. It was worth the effort to get the specs that I wanted though. I used 5/8" rope, 425 feet of it. I can give you tips if you ever wanted to take on the challenge.

Oh WOW~ Who wouldn't be happy with a palace like that. How wonderful!!! I actually have a friend who is taking me with her to a flea market tomorrow b/c she says she sees all kinds of cages at this market. I am excited to check it out. I doubt I will get such a great big cage as we just have one bird, but if I'm lucky I will find something that she can use.
